Under the direction of the Director-Child Nutrition or other assigned administrator plan coordinate and supervise the child nutrition daily operations of assigned school sites; assist in coordinating part of the activities of the Districts Child Nutrition Department; assist in assuring quality and cost control of the Child Nutrition Department; monitor the before and after school snack program; assist in training Child Nutrition employees; train and provide work direction to assigned staff. Monitor compliance with sanitation safety and record-keeping requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Visit assigned schools on a regular basis to observe the activities of cafeteria staff student workers and other child nutrition workers to determine needs for improvement and quality of food service standards.
Provide instruction and guidance to assigned staff regarding proper practices of food handling serving and storage in accordance with established standards and procedures; provide continuing guidance to assure compliance with established policies.
Test and evaluate food products equipment and recipes and prepare reports of findings and recommendations.
Contribute suggestions for improvement in techniques and methods affecting the districts child nutrition operation.
Obtain data pertaining to food quantities; maintain records and prepare periodic reports as needed.
Assist in menu planning and review meal plans to assure satisfaction of nutritional requirements.
Work with parents of students and school nurse to provide nutritional information and appropriate substitutions for students with special dietary needs.
Maintain inventory records of preparation kitchens; coordinate the ordering of food supplies and the maintenance of equipment at assigned schools; review orders from kitchens; coordinate warehouse deliveries.
Respond to questions from school personnel related to child nutrition operations.
Plan and participate in special school promote a healthy lifestyle and promote the school nutrition program.
Supervise and train child nutrition Service Kitchen Operators and other workers; evaluate performance and develop work schedules of assigned staff; serve as a Serving Kitchen Operator as necessary; assist in training staff on the use of PCS system.
Selects and recommends transfers reassignments terminations and disciplinary actions; assures employee understanding of program policies procedures and objectives; gives formal and informal grievances.
Assure maintenance of food services equipment and coordinates repairs at school sites.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school supplemented by completion of formal coursework and training in institutional food management and three years food service experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California drivers license.
Incumbent will be involved in field work which requires travel in personal vehicle to various sites.
Must possess within six months of employment and maintain a State of California approved Food Handlers (i.e. Serve Safe) permit in accordance with section 113716 of the California Health and Safety Code.

Hayward Unified School District does not pay for employee health and welfare benefits.
Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. Health benefit costs are 100% employee paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees may opt out of health coverage upon presentation of proof of alternate coverage.
Dental coverage is mandatory for all employees working 20 hours per week or more regardless of outside coverage. Less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The District contributes the full premium for employee only. Any additional premium will be employee paid.
