Core Subjects Emphasis on Math and Science (English Social Studies a plus)
The education department at Hope for Youth provides personalized curricula to meet the unique educational social and emotional needs of young individuals in our residential programs. Our team of specially trained teachers is dedicated to addressing the diverse backgrounds and specific requirements of cross-system youth ensuring they receive the stability guidance and direction they seek.
Position Overview
Hope For Youth is seeking dynamic and dedicated Substitute Teachers to provide high-quality instruction and support to middle and high school level students (plus GED prep) in the absence of regular classroom teachers. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong classroom management skills a passion for education and flexibility across multiple subject areas particularly. Currently we are focused on those proficient in Math and Science.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging standards-based lessons and maintain continuity of instruction in the teachers absence.
- Support diverse learners through differentiated instruction across various grade levels.
- Implement effective behavior management and crisis intervention strategies to ensure a safe and productive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with school residential and administrative staff to support student success.
- Utilize Smart Boards and other classroom technology to enhance learning.
- Provide feedback and maintain accurate classroom records as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or higher in Education or related field (Certification preferred).
- Experience teaching or tutoring across multiple grade levels.
- Knowledge of Regents curriculum requirements in core subjects.
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and accommodations for special education students.
- Familiarity with classroom technology including Smart Boards and digital learning tools.
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Classroom Management: Skilled in proactive behavior management and crisis intervention.
- Experience working with special education populations and managing acting-out behaviors.
- Ability to motivate reluctant learners through engaging hooks and personalized strategies.
- Comfortable operating in shared instructional spaces.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Demonstrated success in de-escalating student behaviors through effective communication.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues even when instructional approaches differ.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with adolescents staff and families.
This opportunity is being offered as Part Time 6.5 hours per day 8:30AM-3:30PM
