About the role

This is 12-month opportunity with a hybrid work arrangement (with a commitment to work on site at Oakleigh Road Depot (twice a week as a minimum and where appropriate as demand requires during service launch).

Working closely with the Executive Director for Environment and wider Street Scene Leadership Team the post holder will lead and oversee on a range of day-to day support functions and high-profile projects in support of Street Scene services keystrategic priorities ensuring effective governance and reporting arrangements are in place. This includes being responsible for and driving the implementation of a new data works management system and the launch of a new service to all households.

At the heart of this will be implementing service changes relating to the Environment Act 2021 giving the candidate the chance to launch a flagship suite of projects for the council.

The post holder will be pivotal to the planning and delivery of future Street Scene services. This will require close working alongside our senior leadership team as well as our elected members and key public third sector and community stakeholders.

The role is required to work collaboratively across with a range of stakeholders developing the practical solutions to policy technology and legal challenges facing the authority. It will be a varied and challenging job and the postholder will need to display a proven track-record of delivering through others developing solutions to complex cross-cutting challenges and working effectively with senior officials and politicians.

The post holder will be flexible highly motivated and enthusiastic demonstrating a track record of delivering high quality outputs during times of pressure; an ability to master new and complex subject areas and problem solve; and display excellent judgement and political awareness.

About you

  • Comprehensive understanding of the principles of effective project management including governance and strategic decision-making
  • Proven ability to manage a complex workload and deliver high quality accurate and timely work without supervision
  • Knowledge of the major issues facing local government and an understanding of the national policy context in relation to Environment/Street Scene services
  • Excellent communication stakeholder and relationship management skills with proven ability to integrate well into a team and build relationships with a diverse group of senior stakeholders including councillors
  • Continuous ability to source assimilate and analyse data and information relating to wide range of services and translate into an easily understood format.
  • Have a curious and inquisitive nature to ensure best practice is being followed and value for money being acheived
