Position Summary:

Serving as the lead for all parking services and customer experiences within the dynamic Ion District with occasional support at other Rice Parking-managed locations. This pivotal role ensures the seamless daily operation of the parking facilities while championing exceptional service standards.

Reporting to the Rice Parking Manager the Lead directly manages the Ion District Parking Office focusing on cultivating strong customer administrative and event relationships. A key responsibility includes maintaining the highest standards of custodial maintenance across all parking garages and lots ensuring a pristine and welcoming environment for all visitors.

The Lead collaborates closely with Ion administration on operations and actively contributes to the planning and execution of the parking programming at the Ion and the campus. Additionally they will assist the business coordinator and manager with budgeting and billing activities ensuring efficient financial oversight. This position is central to enhancing the overall visitor experience at one of Houstons premier innovation hubs.

Workplace Requirements:
This position is exclusively on-site necessitating all duties to be performed in person full-time at Rice University. Per Rice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range:$27.88 to $29.81 per hour contingent upon experience and qualifications
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions underFLSA are eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates in Business Administration Hospitality or a related field
    • In lieu of the education requirement additional related experience above and beyond what is required on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in public or private parking facilities hospitality or a related customer-facing field.
    • At least two years of experience in a supervisory or lead role demonstrating the ability to manage motivate and evaluate staff.
    • Experience that includes hands-on responsibility for facility maintenance custodial operations or property management is essential.
  • Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas drivers license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past three years.

  • Physical ability to perform routine maintenance and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions as needed.

Preferences:

  • Two years or more in related university services or administrative office experience.
  • Experience working with universities and corporations.
  • Rice experience.
  • Knowledge of a university setting and the terminology associated with it.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and Title IX.
  • Experience with Banner Google Docs Box Adobe Sign Oracle Systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary lead for daily parking operations at the Ion District ensuring efficiency safety and compliance with all Rice Parking and Ion District policies and procedures.
  • Manage the Ion District Parking Office and provide guidance scheduling and oversight for any on-site and additional parking staff.
  • Assist the business coordinator and manager with administrative and financial tasks including processing billing monitoring revenue collection and maintaining accurate financial records and reports.
  • Oversee the functionality of parking equipment and technology such as access control systems and payment machines troubleshooting issues or placing work orders for repairs as needed.
  • Monitor facilities to ensure user compliance with parking regulations and coordinate vehicle towing when necessary.
  • Champion a customer-first approach interacting with patrons tenants and visitors in a friendly and professional manner to provide directions answer inquiries and resolve complaints or issues (e.g. lost tickets payment problems) promptly.
  • Act as the onsite liaison to the Ion administration fostering strong administrative and event relationships to ensure seamless collaboration and service delivery.
  • Actively contribute to the planning and execution of parking logistics for special events and programming at the Ion and other campus locations coordinating staffing and traffic flow strategies.
  • Conduct regular documented patrols and inspections of all parking garages and surface lots to ensure a high standard of cleanliness proper lighting safety and overall aesthetics.
  • Identify and report the need for repairs to damaged facilities or equipment (e.g. signs gate arms elevators lighting) and coordinate with appropriate maintenance teams to ensure timely resolution.
  • Monitor parking areas for security and safety hazards reporting suspicious activity or emergencies to security personnel or appropriate authorities immediately.
  • Perform light maintenance or general custodial work as needed such as sweeping trash removal or addressing weather-related issues.
