Tudor CE Primary Schoolare seeking a compassionate patient and dedicated1 to 1 or a 1 to 2 SEN Teaching Assistantto work with 1 child or 2 children in their primary school who have additional emotional and social needs. This role is vital in supporting the childs access to learning development and participation in all aspects of school life.

Your responsibilities

  • provide tailored one-to-one support throughout the school day ensuring the childs/childrens individual needs are met in both academically and socially.
  • support access to the curriculum by adapting resources and using specialist equipment or technology as needed
  • work closely with the class teacher SENCo to implement and monitor personalised support strategies
  • promote independence confidence and inclusion both in the classroom and during unstructured times such as playtime and lunchtime
  • build a trusting relationship with the child to foster emotional well-being and a positive attitude toward learning
  • establish a nurture approach to the learning for the child(ren)
  • establish good working relationships with the parents ensuring they are informed of the pupils learning achievements and areas of development
  • maintain confidentiality and safeguard the childs welfare in line with school policies and procedures
  • act as general TA should the pupil(s) not be in school supporting the class teacher with classroom activities.
  • participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
  • assist with supervision of pupil(s) out of lesson times including playtimes and lunch time
  • accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits trips and out of school activities as required.

What you will need

Essential:

  • experience working with children with SEND preferably in a school setting
  • understanding of inclusive educational practices and a commitment to equality and diversity
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work collaboratively with staff parents/carers and external professionals
  • patience empathy and a positive can-do attitude
  • willingness to undertake relevant training including in visual impairment and safeguarding.

Desirable:

  • experience of working with children with additional needs
  • understanding of needs associated within children with SEND
  • relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or
  • equivalent)
  • paediatric first Aid and Manual Handling training.
