General Description:
Duties performed typically in a schoolsetting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to requires frequent standing sitting light lifting up to 10 pounds walking vocalcommunication for expressing or exchanging ideas hearing to perceive information at a normalspoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Early Intervention Assistants will be trained to conduct the Richmond Public Schools earlyintervention eligibility screening process in grade K-2. Early Intervention Assistants will receiverequired professional development and training prior to conducting academic interventions usingresearch based methodology in reading and/or math in grades K-2.
- Provides small group instruction.
- Communicates with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.
- Differentiates instruction based on assessment data.
- Upon request and availability; participates in team reviews concerning academic progress for students receiving services.
- Shares student data with applicable teachers and administration.
- Provides pre and post-assessment data to teachers and administrators.
- Communicates and interacts with students parents staff and community.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation.
- Follows required procedures and practices outlined in training.
- Attends all required training.
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment materials and facilities.
- Administers informal and formal assessments outlined in program.
- Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional program objectives.
- Manages classroom organization.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree or completion of 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university recognized by the Virginia Department of Education or demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in reading writing and mathematicsinstruction by achieving a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
- A minimum of one yearworking experience as an instructional assistant preferred.
- Excellent communicationorganizational time management and public relations skills are required.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Must have good skills inoperating personal computers and related software.
- Must be adaptable to changing prioritieshave the ability to work independently and/or with minimum supervision and the ability toeffectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Must have good knowledge of andunderstanding of child growth and development and paraprofessional instructional proceduresand practices.
- Must have some knowledge of the instructional goals and the policies of publicschools.
- Considerable patience and the ability to work effectively with children and facultymembers are essential. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and to perform allrequired tasks.
