We are looking for someone who can help ensure safe reliable and supportive transportation for our riders each day. This role is perfect for someone who is patient attentive and committed to creating a positive experience for every passenger.

The Attendant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and secure transportation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and students. This position is responsible for assisting passengers as they board travel and exit the vehicle ensuring their safety throughout the journey.

The Attendant must be a dedicated and service-oriented individual committed to maintaining a professional and supportive environment for individuals requiring transportation assistance. This role requires attentiveness patience and the ability to follow established safety protocols to protect passengers staff and the vehicle.

Responsibilities: 

  • Report to designated pickup location and be ready for work.
  • Ensure members board and exit the transportation vehicle safely.
  • Do not touch IDD members except as necessary and appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of noise in the vehicle (OSSE).
  • Ensure members safety to and from day program/school (OSSE) while in the vehicle by employing appropriate strategies and tools.
  • Helping members into a seat and securing seatbelts.
  • Exit the vehicle to open and close doors when members enter and exit vehicle.
  • Provide necessary assistance to and from the main door of the pickup and drop off destinations (this includes a visual inspection prior to signing in and out members as required).
    • H-to H: Hand to Hand
    • ISD: Independent Student Drop Off Can be dropped independently as long as the student has his/her key (OSSE).
  • Ensure Car Seats and boosters are properly secured.
  • Provide adequate support and visual/oral directions.
  • Prior to allowing the vehicle to proceed confirm that wheelchairs cots and stretchers are properly secured and that all members are properly seat-belted or secured/restrained in their mobility device. This applies to the movement of wheelchairs and mobility-limited members as they enter and exit the vehicle using a wheelchair.
  • Assist members in exiting the vehicle and moving to the building access of the destination.
  • Only the vehicle operator should control the lift.
  • In case of accident remain calm: Provide leadership to passengers. Passengers will look to you for help and direction.
  • Render first aid and assistance when necessary.
  • Protect yourself the passengers and the vehicle.
  • Prevent injury and death to anyone involved in the situation.
  • Evaluate situations and determine the appropriate actions needed to protect the safety of the people and property.
  • Report incidents and accidents immediately or as soon as it is safe to do this.
  • Notify dispatch and your supervisor of all emergency situations.
  • Contact emergency services as necessary.
  • Dial 911 for immediate assistance.
  • Document the situation.
  • Use MTMs Incident/Accident Form IDD trips only.
  • Use School Bus Incident Report Form and/or Route Issue Form and submit in writing on the day of the incident any and all incidents to include accidents that may have occurred on the route on the proper forms to management (OSSE) 
  • File a police report if necessary.
  • If a student does not board the bus in the afternoon at the school have a school official sign off on the Trip Ticket (please make sure the signature is legible).
  • If you arrive to the home and no one is home to receive the student (NOHTR) have the driver contact dispatch support at . Never contact the  parents/guardians yourself.
  • Ensure students are received by an adult at drop off location - 18 years of age or older.
  • Sign Trip Sheet on morning and afternoon trips.
  • Other related duties as directed by supervisor or senior management.
