Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs clerical communication and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of department services. The CNA assists patients in their routine activities of daily living collects patient data and specimens and assists the patient care team by performing designated patient care procedures.
Location:Kodiak Alaska United States
Responsibilities:
- Assists patients in their routine activities of daily living including range of motion ambulation positioning skin care linen changes feeding hygiene toileting and incontinent care.
- Collects urine stool and sputum specimens and processes specimens as needed.
- Obtains and records health weights vital signs including pulse oximetry and pain assessment and I&O.
- Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professional.
- Performs incentive spirometry.
- Transports patient.
- Preps for diagnostic tests.
- Assists rehab therapists (PM & R).
- Performs pulse oximetry/oxygen set up in oxygen therapy.
- Prepares room (supplies).
- Provides post mortem care.
- Prepares for admission and discharge.
- Assists nurse in emergency situations.
- Maintains and cleans equipment.
- Performs suction (oral naso pharynx).
- Performs blood sugar finger sticks.
- Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction.
- Performs EKGs (department specific responsibility).
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems.
- Documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs.
- Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- CNA license
- AHA BLS Provider CPR
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- N/A
Special Considerations:
- Must be able to work every other weekend.
- May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Housing and a rental car/vehicle are provided during the assignment.
- Pets are not allowed in the provided housing.
- Only the traveler is authorized to operate the provided vehicle.
- The vehicle is for use around town and should not be taken off-road or outside of a 30-mile radius from the facility.
- Traveler can be called off for one 8-hour shift per 2 weeks.
Scheduling:
- 5x8 Variable shifts (either straight days or straight nights shift determined closer to start date based on staffing needs).
- Guaranteed 72 hours per 2 weeks.
