Job Summary
The Project Officer of Early Childhood Development (ECD) will support the team to implement the Organizations Cluster Learning Programme a sustainable Early Childhood Education
project owned and managed by the communities themselves. He/She will provide technical ECE support and mentor our Cluster Management Committees parents and caregivers in various core program areas of ECD to ensure children in the target communities have a better start in life.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Project planning and implementation
Support and train ToTs to implement the organisations curriculum and play-based child centred pedagogy
Ensure all cluster groups have access to locally sourced and sustainable learning materials and resources
Develop and implement parent engagement strategies to ensure all parents and families understand the core concepts of child development and play and are actively engaged in their childrens learning and development
Form and strengthen Study Areas and Cluster groups to ensure all children can access ECE and core ratios are adhered to.
Support CLMCs to understand child development ECE play and our unique approach and support them to develop ownership and management of their study area.
Develop and implement community workshops on ECE child development and the importance of play.
Identify capacity gaps in community structures (caregivers CLMCs) and arrange for appropriate training and mentorships to adequately equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge required to carry out their responsibilities.
Child protection safeguarding and inclusion
Support TOTs and caregivers to identify report and / or refer Child Protection disability & psychosocial cases to relevant partners.
Work alongside the safeguarding officer to identify and report child safeguarding risks and promote strong safeguarding practices and procedures for child safety in the community.
Work with existing structures to sensitise communities on Child Protection
Work with communities and families to ensure all children can access cluster learning with a particular focus on vulnerable children such as those with additional needs or disabilities single parent households girls and those at risk of exploitation and abuse.
Partnerships and collaboration
Support and collaborate with the team in Napak to ensure that the whole programme is delivered effectively and efficiently.
Work alongside the UK team to develop improve and implement their strategy curriculum and pedagogy.
Build strong partnerships with other ECE government partners.
Monitoring and reporting
Work with the M&E Officer and the Head caregivers to ensure all weekly reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Use the Teaching and Learning Observation form to monitor teaching and learning and the implementation of the Cluster Learning Programme.
Support the M&E officer to track caregivers attendance and retention.
Monitor and report on the functionality of CLMCs.
Participate in capacity assessments of existing Clusters.
Collect documents and provide field data and information; lessons and best practices to inform reports for internal and external use; and support the M&E department in data collection and analysis.
Conduct annual PPAF assessments.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.

Knowledge of child development and ECE; It is essential to have ECE qualifications plus some knowledge of child rights play-based learning or early childhood education particularly in very rural communities would be desirable.
Team player; You will be working in an intense and sometimes difficult environment. It is essential that you can work well with others and appreciate the diversity skills and experience that make up our small but very strong in-country team.
