The work involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks such as routine typing. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking employee who gives detailed instructions for new assignments and practices. Does related work as required.
Typical Work ActivitiesTypes forms form letters payrolls bills vouchers records reports index cards and similar materials;
Relieves telephone switchboard operator;
Collects money and accounts for monies received;
Addresses envelopes on a typewriter;
Answers telephone take messages relays information directly or over intercommunication system;
Assists in the preparation of payrolls and the maintenance of time cards;
Sorts correspondence vouchers and similar materials;
Makes and checks routine arithmetical computations;
Files correspondence memoranda reports and other materials;
Acts as receptionist directing callers to the proper person or office; and gives information of a routine nature;
Operates other office machines;
Indexes materials;
Performs routine office work involved in the issuance of license and permits in preparation of tax rolls and in
preparation mailing and collection of tax and utility bill;
Utilizes enhanced computer systems and equipment in the completion of assigned clerical tasks.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
As required by law or statute subject to medical examination including tuberculin (TB) test at time of appointment and throughout period of employment when assigned to Youth Services.
Applicants for designated positions in the Department of Social Services that may have access to federal tax information to perform his/her job duties shall be subject to a suitability background check investigation including FBI fingerprinting local law enforcement check and verification check of citizenship/residency. A criminal record does not necessarily disqualify applicants from employment rather an individualized determination will be made. The cost of the background check will be assumed by the Department of Social Services.
NOTE 1: One year of office clerical experience which included typing may be substituted for the required typing course.
NOTE 2: Office clerical experience including typing may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis.
NOTE 3: Possession of an Associates degree** or higher can substitute for the required typing course.
NOTE 4: **Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional national or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
