BASIC FUNCTION:
Assist with the supervision and safety of students while on the bus. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the transportation department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in the supervision and support of students to ensure behavioral health and safety needs are met; report policy infractions as appropriate.
- Physically assist the driver in loading and unloading students including students with accommodations such as wheelchairs safety vests etc.
- Perform visual safety equipment inspection at the start of each route; including harnesses wheelchair tie down devices etc.
- Report all equipment damage and/or repair items using established procedures and
- Assist in assuring interior cleanliness and appearance of the school bus.
- Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property or failure of mechanical equipment.
- Complete Medicare
- Utilize a computer for District and Department email communications and online training
- Attend professional development.
- Adhere to District policies/procedures and Department work rules.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Desired Education and Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience working with children.
Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to support the behavioral health and safety needs of students including those with additional accommodations.
- Ability to take online training
- Practical knowledge of equipment needed to perform job functions.
- Ability and willingness to accept the responsibility of the
- Effective communication
- Ability to use good judgment; and have a caring and optimistic attitude toward
- Ability to promote spirit of cooperation with
- Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Bidders are subject to the following criteria:
- For internal candidates meets or better rating on employee evaluation criteria established by the district
- No more than 10 family/personal leave days used. approved FMLA paid or unpaid will not be counted. All authorized workers Compensation (paid/unpaid) will be taken off the record for the purposes of this bid process.
- Zero (0) incidents involving formal discipline during the past 12 months from the posting date.
