Job Description

The Parker laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a research assistant. This position is a research position where the candidate will function independently and responsibly while reporting directly to Dr. Rell Parker. This candidate will also assist the primary investigator (PI) with operational oversight of the laboratory. This individual is expected to support research efforts focused on animal models of chronic pain using a variety of techniques. The majority of time will be devoted to research efforts with a smaller proportion of time devoted to lab maintenance training and oversight.

The candidate will have the opportunity to author or co-author publications and depending on their background and experience craft their own research projects. Training and guidance and will be provided for those aspects of the job in which the candidate is lacking sufficient expertise.

Required Qualifications

BS degree in biology molecular biology neuroscience or a related field
Previous hands-on experience in a laboratory with previous mouse handling experience.
Ability to manage time organize data and keep accurate lab records
Ability to efficiently use computer software
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Good communication skills
Curiosity and enthusiasm for science

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and knowledge about cell and molecular biology immunohistochemistry cell culture etc.
Potential candidates should have the basic knowledge of molecular neuroscience and a fundamental understanding of standard laboratory equipment.
Experience in mouse behavior genotyping etc
