ROLE PURPOSE:

Communication Coordinator will lead and support the implementation USDA- PALAM/A project communication and visibility plan as well as aligning the Project Office communication plan with the broader Save the Children International Advocacy Campaigns Communication and Media (ACCM) plan. The position will manage the production of key communications resources for donor and public engagement and position Save the Children within country and international media as it relates to the project meeting both USDA and Save the Childrens requirement. S/he will lead and strategize effective content collection and that USDA and SC brand is brought to life through compelling evidence-based storytelling.

S/he will lead in creating specialized content for Save the Childrens digital media platforms. They will be the PALAM/A project Child Safeguarding in communications and media focal point. The communications Coordinator will report to The Head of Operations. The position will focus on 3 key communications outcomes by the end of the project.

  • Strong evidence based and impactful story telling.
  • Donor visibility and reporting requirements are met.
  • Successfully implementing the PALAM/A project communication and visibility plan.

S/he will be responsible for coordinating the development of IEC materials ensure routine updates of the PALAM/A project media monitoring work on crisis communications when the need arises and prepare reactive Q&As.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency this role will be expected to work outside the normal profile of the role and be able to vary working hours and location accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Identify priority messaging for pre-determined external stakeholders.
  • Ensure production of high-quality accurate clear and consistent communication and communication products for appropriate channels that highlight the situation for children in Sri Lanka including case studies feature stories blogs website updates etc.
  • Support to identify key media and communication opportunities that help fulfil related objectives in order to influence our target audience through appropriate channels.
  • Oversee all aspects of PALAMA Communications and Visibility Plan ensuring compliance with donor communication and visibility guidelines
  • Work closely with the Management Technical Team/staff and partners on coordination of visibility of activities host donor visits and quality of reporting.
  • Ensure quality of content and detail of achievement challenges and lessons learnt according to USDA requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead the content collection for PALAM/A project.
  • Ensure USDA donor branding in alignment with Save the Children global branding guidelines
  • Ensure child safeguarding and adult safeguarding in all PALAM/A project communication campaign and media activities.
  • Coordinate the design process and approval of IEC materials.
  • Support with crisis communications including -media monitoring reactive Q&As outreach and drafting narratives
  • Coordinate translations of core communication products internal and external.
  • Work closely with the Management Technical Team/staffand partners on coordination of visibility of activities host donorvisitsand quality of reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS :

A university degree in a related field including social sciences development studies international relations or other related fields. A degree in media and communication journalism and digital marketing would be an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential

  • At least 2 yearsexperience in Communication and campaigns including digital media content media management marketing public relations or similar areas of experience in Government NGO UN or private sector.
  • Good understanding of working on human development issues especially in the context of Sri Lanka in both development and humanitarian.
  • Good personal organisational skills including time management and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Previous experience working with US government funded agencies.
  • Experience in creative and effective use of media and social media approaches to influence audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships
  • Excellent English communications skills both written and oral and fluency in one of local languages.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Childrens aims values and principles.
  • Willingness to travel to field offices and work in challenging environments

Desirable

  • Good understanding of the advocacy campaigns communication and media work carried out within SC Sri Lanka
  • Ability to use software to develop digital assets (Social media cards videos edit pictures etc.)
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • A high degree of flexibility and adaptability in order to respond to changing needs Good spoken and written ability in Sinhala or Tamil.
