Clifton is currently searching for Junior Geotechnical Engineers to join our Earth Sciences practice team in our Calgary Regina and Saskatoon locations. In this role you will work with a dynamic group of professionals across a broad range of disciplines and play a key role in the delivery of professional engineering services for a variety of exciting geotechnical projects throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate on a wide variety of geotechnical projects including field investigations; laboratory testing and interpretation; geotechnical analysis; and construction inspection.
  • Work on large complex or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field programs for infrastructure buildings land development and slope stability projects. Will involve drilling geotechnical boreholes and logging of soils and rock.
  • Analyze field data and prepare detailed engineering reports and recommendations required for the assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations retaining structures and earth structures.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field inspection of construction works and foundation installations including testing of geotechnical materials.
  • Ensure effective task management including accountability for time budget and technical requirements of assigned projects.
  • Maintain positive client sub-consultant and co-worker relationships.
  • Act as a safety leader and champion for Cliftons health and safety program.
  • Ensure adherence to Cliftons Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery including contracts management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Geotechnical Geological or Mining Engineering. Preference given to candidates who have obtained a Graduate Degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGS.
  • One to five (1-5) years of relevant geotechnical or geological experience working in the consulting or mining industry.
  • Experience using geological modelling and geotechnical software (Slope W Rocscience FLAC etc.) an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with the ability to meet deadlines in the context of work/life balance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication time and team management skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to travel to various locations (including remote locations) to complete field work as required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License and be comfortable driving mid- to full-size trucks in urban rural and construction environments.
  • Continued attention to safety and safe work environments with a strong workplace safety orientation.
