Position Purpose summary:

The Brighter Futures project is funded by Public Health Agency of Canada in partnership with St. Marys Home and this position has been designed to support the goals of this project.

Accountabilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

Provide general support to the Young Parent Program Director

Parent support:

Provide participant case management and work with a caseload of parents in a wide range of areas with a focus on parenting personal safety personal development child development CAS support legal support matrix assessments exit planning and more. Act as case manager for internal referrals of BHC young parent participants (except where referral is required) Provide one-to-one support to vulnerable pregnant and parenting youth Provide short/medium term individual support and goal planning Provide crisis intervention referrals and advocacy when required Deliver on the BF workplan by developing adapting and facilitating groups related to parenting and personal development in an ongoing creative and community responsive manner Participate in ongoing evaluation and continuing improvement of programs and services as required by the BF project workplan Provide support in a manner which is informed and compatible with the trauma-informed attachment based and positive parenting philosophy of the Centre.

Community involvement:

Advocate for pregnant youth and young parents in the community as required Maintain knowledge of and liase with relevant community resources Project a positive image of the BF project and of Bethany Hope Centre when advocating in the community participating in outreach strategies and serving on relevant community committees and teams

Administrative responsibilities:

Document all interactions with participants and other agencies in a timely manner as per policy Maintain appropriate documentation and records for Bethany Hope Centre and as required by The Brighter Futures project. Other general staff duties as required Complete relevant training and continuing education as required Attend and participate in staff meetings case conferences and other meetings at BHC or with BF as requested by the YPPD and or ED

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATICATIONS

Written and Verbal Communication

  • Advanced English -written oral and comprehension required
  • Fluency in French and any other language deemed an asset

  • Directly reports to Young Parent Program Director
  • Works as a member of the case management team
  • May supervise student or volunteer

  • Reports directly to: Young Parent Program Director
  • Direct reports for this position: May supervise practicum student

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Helps to manage the Brighter Futures Budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typical working location is in an office.
  • Travel requirements 10%

education and experience Qualifications:

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelors degree in Social Work Child and Youth Worker Diploma; or the equivalent
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Current criminal record check
  • Certification in Circle of Security parenting program facilitation (preferred)

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in community services
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in counseling program development and facilitation working with pregnant and parenting youth
  • Proven knowledge of community resources
  • Adaptability to deal with changing program needs
  • Proven group development and evaluation skills
  • Proven group leadership skills/experience
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently and as member of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant computer skills; must be comfortable with learning and using online recording and database
  • Knowledge of Infant Mental Health brain development positive parenting and attachment theory
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $42375.18 to $52968.97 with a maximum of $63562.77.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
