The Max Bell School for Policy at McGill University invites applications for a Fellowship in Sustainability for the 2026-27 academic year. The position is open to scholarswith policy-oriented research interests in sustainability climate policy the energy transition or sustainable economic growth. The successful applicant will also have a track record in post-secondary teaching. The position may be awarded as a postdoctoral fellowship to a researcher who has finished their PhD or to an individual outside the academic community whose writing research or public career is making a meaningful contribution to environment energy conservation or sustainability policy.

This is a visiting fixed term position with an ideal starting date of September 1 2026. The duration of the appointment is negotiable although the preference is for one year. The position carries a salary commensurate with qualifications the level of engagement with the School and the duration of the successful applicant will be provided with office space at the Max Bell School.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in the following ways:

  • Be based in Montreal and present at the School regularly during the academic term

  • Pursue independent research and publications in the broad area of sustainability and environmental policy

  • Contribute to the Schools public outreach (blogs podcasts etc.)

  • Teach one case study or complexity seminar (short courses of one week duration) in the Schools MPP program and/or coach a Policy Lab team in the area of sustainability/environmental policy

  • Serve as an informal mentor to MPP students

  • Serve as a liaison to McGills planning group for the new Sustainability Park

Applicants must upload a curriculum vitae and a letter of intent indicatingthe preferred start date andsummarizing their proposed activities and objectives while at the School. They should also provide one sample of research and/or policy writing. The names and contact information of at least two referees must also be provided.
