It is a core strategy to fulfill Airbnbs belongs anywhere are building a world-class payments platform that moves billions of dollars in 191 countries with 75 currencies through a complex ecosystem of payments partners. We build and maintain our own in-house global payments platform because no solution exists with the global reach needed. As the platform grows well be adding new payment partners global licenses compliance and regulation controls and building new payment experiences for our guests and hosts.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer in the Payments Org youll need to be passionate about payments. You will lead through influence and collaboration to transform concepts into reality. Your deep understanding of how money moves between merchant platforms and payment processing partners including payment gateways processors acquirers card networks and issuers will be needed for ideating advocating and driving cost efficiencies across our payments platform.
Youre expected to be comfortable with ambiguity and help the team enjoy working backwards from highly ambiguous starting points by leveraging data running experiments and following a structured approach to build business use cases that influence a diverse team of engineers data scientists finance compliance legal and business experts.
You should be able to guide and navigate the team through technical and regulatory constraints while simultaneously distilling and communicating complex subject matter to payments and non-payments stakeholders. You will have to be passionate about building a high performing team and creating a unique culture. You would be expected to participate in the development of product and UX requirements by engaging early and often with designers product managers and other stakeholders to help steer teams on the most efficient path towards overall goals.

A Typical Day:

• Design develop and refine payments and vetting features for Airbnb on the web ensuring high-quality and performant user experiences
• Work closely with engineers from product teams across Airbnb understanding their productivity and feature pain points and building solutions to resolve them scalably and flexibly.
• Drive investments into new technical capabilities that push the envelope and unlock new product innovation
• Identify Design and Engineer product development pain point and constantly improve the development efficiency.
• Contribute to the teams technical strategy alongside leads to evolve technology choices that scale with Product and Design ambitions.
• Level up technical leadership within the team through effective partnership with peer ICs and mentoring.

Your Expertise:

• 7 years of industry experience developing consumer Web applications and design systems at scale.
• Expertise using Javascript/Typescript HTML CSS and related web technologies
• Experience with modern JavaScript/Typescript libraries and tooling (e.g. React)
• Track record of leading projects end-to-end that involve strong cross-functional collaboration with Product and Design partners.
• You possess passion for UI and Motion animation development with attention to detail mindset
• Bonus Experience working with Figma and other design tools
• Bonus Have knowledge of PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliance and best practices for securing payment systems.
