Title: Maintenance III Groundskeeper
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Roads and Grounds
Position Purpose: To keep the Districts facilities and grounds maintained and operational so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a course of study in turf management horticultural science arborist studies grounds maintenance or an equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- State of Kansas Commercial Pesticide and Herbicide Applicator Certification required or must be obtained within 24 months of employment.
- Experience and training in landscaping grounds maintenance mowing fertilizing soil testing aerating weed control painting athletic field lines heavy equipment operation snow removal machining welding concrete/asphalt fencing playground maintenance and roof repair. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined to be appropriate and acceptable.
- Documented knowledge of standard practices in the care of trees shrubs flowers grasses etc.
- Knowledge of standard practices tools and terminology in landscaping grounds maintenance heavy equipment operation and other assigned skill areas.
- Ability to drive and operate medium to large trucks mowers standard skid-steer and a variety of standard farm lawn and turf management equipment.
- Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to read understand and apply technical information in equipment and facilities maintenance manuals technical bulletins blueprints and associated grounds keeping literature; must be able to interpret the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
- Ability to design or modify components to meet job requirements in the assigned skill areas.
- Must have or obtain a valid Commercial Kansas drivers license and possess a good driving record.
- Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to work from heights.
- Knowledge of colors.
- Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Dependability and the ability to get along with others.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety precautions hazardous materials and proper ways necessary to perform the assigned tasks.
Physical/Emotional Requirements:
- The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.
- The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work from a ladder.
- Speaking reading hearing manual dexterity.
- Standing sitting bending stooping walking.
- Reaching pushing pulling climbing driving.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor Roads and Grounds to receive each days assignments.
- Perform grounds maintenance activities as assigned or by following an established work schedule.
- Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
- Ensure that proper safety procedures are strictly followed in application and quantities of pesticides and herbicides. Document the application and quantities of all pesticides and herbicides used in day-to day operations.
- Assist with a variety of work assignments including such things as painting athletic field lines machining welding concrete/asphalt fencing playground maintenance and roof repair.
- Periodically perform manual digging and manual labor using hand tools.
- Trim and prune trees on District property.
- Prevent and repair soil erosion as necessary.
- Assist with development and carry out preventative maintenance program.
- Follow the Districts system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
- Ensure that all assigned vehicles machinery equipment tools and supplies are accounted for secured and used correctly.
- Attend appropriate training sessions meetings and classes as part of professional development.
- Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operate and care for equipment used in daily work assignments.
- Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
- Assist other maintenance areas with work requests as assigned.
- Occasionally operate medium and heavy equipment in course of day-to-day work assignments.
- Assist with snow removal as necessary including operating snow plows tractors etc.
- Demonstrate professional image through appearance language and work ethic.
- Require good attendance record for continuity of operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Term of Employment: Twelve (12) months
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
