The Medical University of South Carolinas (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically-oriented Molecular Genetic Pathologist to join our Cytogenetics and Genomics laboratory. MUSC is a tertiary care hospital with active transplantation molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics service as well as an apheresis service. Our department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.Entity

Job Description
We are seeking
An academically oriented candidate with 2-10 years of post-fellowship experience; current
fellow/recent graduates will be considered
MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the
American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Clinical and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina if applicable
Additional formal training certification and/or experience/expertise in constitutional
cytogenetics/genetics and cancer genomics is desired (e.g. Laboratory Genetics and Genomics
Fellowship training and certification)
Proficiency in the interpretation of results for those techniques employed in the clinical work-up
of cases for precision pathology (cytogenetics genetics and genomics)
Advanced practical diagnostic and interpretive skills in cytogenetics FISH SNP microarray PCR
and next generation sequencing
Ability to contribute to the operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art molecular biology
equipment including PCR machines real-time PCR instruments next-generation sequencing
platforms SNP microarray platforms
Performance and optimization of quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of
test results
Knowledge and experience in new molecular genomic and genetic test development validation
and implementation
Experience in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers as well as
serving as a resource to technologists at the bench
Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors
Excellent communication skills work ethic and collaborative approach to patient care
Active participation in teaching of medical students and training of pathology residents and
fellows
Active participation in the ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship training
program ongoing development and training
Active participation in the academic mission of the Department

passage rate for the past 7 years
CAP AABB ASHI and FACT certifications and accreditations
You will collaboratively support the Directors of the Cytogenetic and Genomics Laboratory and
Microbiology Laboratory in terms of variant science teaching activities genetics and genomics
validation and verification studies (LDT and RUO) accreditation activities MolDx technical
assessment preparation and/or review and participation in applicable research and/or industry
grants.
