Position Purpose Summary
The Behavior Support Aide serves as a key member of the Middle School team supporting a positive safe and inclusive campus environment while providing targeted behavioral support to students as needed. This hybrid role ensures consistent supervision and proactive intervention throughout the school day promoting both schoolwide expectations and individualized behavior goals. The incumbent helps create a culture where students feel supported respected and empowered to make positive choices that contribute to their academic and social success.
The individual in this role reports to the Dean of School Culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Campus Supervision and Schoolwide Support
Supervise students during arrival dismissal passing periods recess and mealtimes.
Maintain a visible and proactive presence across campus responding promptly and effectively to student needs and incidents.
Model and reinforce the schools behavioral values; caring safety responsibility respect and tolerance.
Enforce school rules and expectations while maintaining a supportive and relational approach.
Support teachers and staff by assisting in managing student behavior and transitions.
Utilize restorative practices to address conflict and facilitate restorative conversations between students.
Provide regular updates and feedback to the Dean of School Culture regarding student interactions supervision coverage and behavior trends.
Support students with behavior or academic intervention plans reinforcing goals and celebrating progress.
Assist with setting up and cleaning up outdoor play areas and maintaining supervision equipment as needed.
Behavioral Intervention and Student Support
Implement and monitor students Behavior Support Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans under the direction of the Dean of School Culture.
Supervise and support students exhibiting behavioral challenges to encourage self-regulation and positive replacement behaviors.
Collect and record daily behavioral data to inform progress reviews intervention adjustments and behavior goals.
Foster appropriate peer interactions modeling social and emotional learning (SEL) skills throughout the day.
Collaborate with teachers support staff and administrators to ensure consistency in behavioral expectations and interventions.
Support instruction for individuals or small groups as needed.
Apply Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) strategies when required to maintain a safe environment.
Maintain accurate records logs and incident reports per school and program requirements.
Participate in Student Study Team (SST) meetings as needed to share behavioral observations and updates.
Collaboration and Professionalism
Communicate professionally and consistently with teachers administrators and families regarding student needs and progress.
Participate in required trainings professional development and team meetings.
Welcome feedback and coaching to support continuous professional growth.
Demonstrate patience empathy and cultural responsiveness when engaging with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Uphold confidentiality and integrity in all student matters.
Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications :
Experience working with middle school students and supporting social-emotional or behavioral growth preferred.
Knowledge of restorative practices positive behavior intervention strategies and trauma-informed approaches.
Strong communication collaboration and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively to challenging student behavior.
High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in education psychology or a related field preferred.
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification or willingness to complete training upon hire.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Basic computer skills
