ABOUT US: Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a registered non-profit charity located in Calgary Alberta helping over 4000 animals find loving adoptive homes each year. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals in need and provide community support programs that help people and their pets.

AARCS Veterinary Hospital is a fast-paced high volume clinic designed specifically to help rescued animals. Our team of experienced veterinarians technicians assistants and support staff ensure the animals are provided with the highest standard of medical care. The hospital is fully equipped allowing our team to perform a variety of treatments on a daily basis.

The Role: This role is responsible for supporting our skilled team of Veterinarians. Having both a love of people and animals you are naturally optimistic positive friendly and with on-site Veterinarians the medical team and a group of dedicated volunteers you pride yourself on exceptional patient care. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment including high-volume surgery and hospitalization and isolation for infectious disease. You have highly developed cooperation collaboration and problem-solving love of animals extends to shy reactive and feral animals which you can handle with confidence and care. At heart you strive to see every animal provided with the highest quality medical care. Your strengths include teamwork and adaptability to change.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Genuine interest in animal welfare.

  • Animal handling experience is required including the ability and willingness to work with animals with behavioral issues.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Maintain the highest standard of accuracy professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Diligent attention to detail strong organizational abilities and time management skills are required.

  • Emotionally resilient with the ability to handle stress and react quickly and competently in demanding and changing situations.

  • Highly developed cooperation collaboration and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to remain calm while working under pressure with competing priorities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide medical care to shelter and foster animals (primarily cats dogs guinea pigs and rabbits) including physical examinations diagnostics medical rounds and treatments under the guidance of Veterinarians while ensuring safe handling of animals with behavioral concerns.

  • Perform pre-medication induction intubation and monitoring of anesthesia for surgical procedures and respond to anesthetic emergencies with proficiency and care.

  • Conduct high-volume surgical preparation monitoring recovery and sterilization wrap packing to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

  • Administer treatments injections and medications and provide supportive care for hospitalized and isolated animals adhering to strict disease prevention protocols.

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics including radiographs bloodwork urinalysis fecals cytology and ultrasounds oral health assessments diagnostic dental radiographs and dental charting.

  • Educate foster parents and adopters on animal health including prescription medication usage and general wellness.

  • Maintain accurate medical records in coordination with veterinary staff entering data daily into electronic systems such as PetPoint.

  • Collaborate with Veterinarians Veterinary Technologist Assistants and volunteers to deliver a high standard of care maximizing resources while minimizing costs.

  • Perform clinic husbandry tasks including cleaning disinfecting and maintaining equipment and facilities.

  • Ensure compliance with quarantine and sanitation protocols to manage and prevent contagious diseases.

  • Support scheduling phone inquiries and operational needs for surgeries examinations and rechecks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Training:

  • Licensed RVT in the province of Alberta.

  • Must be in good standing with the ABVMA.

  • Minimum three years of surgical experience is preferred.

  • Experience in animal welfare/shelter environment is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Hospital environment within a busy animal shelter with a moderate to loud noise level.

  • The position involves exposure to dangerous and/or diseased animals.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and up to 120 lbs with assistance.

  • Ability to stand sit crouch bend and lift for extended periods of time.

Details:

Term: Permanent full-time (30 hrs/wk)

*Open to part-time (under 30 hrs/wk) for the right fit.

Shifts:Monday through Friday 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM No evening overnight or weekend shifts.

Salary Range:$20.00 - $27.90 hourly based on experience and qualifications
