Who we are


Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time overseeing and evolving Ontarios electricity market engaging with government municipalities and Indigenous communities and planning for Ontarios future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation protecting the system from threats advancing the provinces energy conservation programs and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources well need in the decades to come.
This role is a part of Market & Reliability business unit under Power System Limits department. The team is responsible for establishing reviewing and communicating grid operating limits instructions and associated monitoring that are used to direct the operation of a secure grid and efficient market.

What youll do


In this role youll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Analyze statistical mathematical and engineering data to support studies related to power system operation reliability and planning.
  • Prepare organize and present technical data in graphic tabular and report formats to enable engineering conclusions.
  • Develop modify test and debug computer programs for EMS securitylimit monitoring including documentation and production implementation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing engineering software and databases by identifying issues coordinating corrective actions and updating procedures.
  • Perform shortcircuit and loadflow studies using commercial power system analysis tools including basecase development and results documentation.
  • Design and produce single-line diagrams and other CAD-based drawings to support system studies and operational needs.
  • Manage and update technical databases in line with changes in the IESO-controlled grid to support system operations EMS applications outage coordination and system configuration tracking.
  • Provide periodic supervision to assigned staff and collaborate with internal users to define requirements validate data and deliver study results.

In a typical day you will be assisting operation teams implement adequate system monitoring to facilitate reliable operation of the IESO-controlled grid reviewing upcoming changes in the power system to help prepare operating instructions and incorporating recent system changes into baseline models for offline studies.

Recently this position was part of reliable integration of battery energy storage systems in Ontario by providing additional system monitoring required for reliable operation of these assets.

Role Requirements


Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds each bringing their unique perspectives and skills.
To succeed in this role youll need:

  • Requires knowledge of power system networks control and feedback systems electrical and electronic theories advanced mathematics and engineering principles to analyze statistical mathematical and engineering data in assisting professional staff to carry out studies relative to power system operation and reliability.
  • Requires knowledge of computer techniques to write and modify programs and utilize computer facilities.
  • Requires knowledge of technical writing for the preparation of clear concise reports.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade 12 in a Secondary School Commercial or Technical School plus a three-year course of concentrated study in the appropriate subjects obtained in the Province of Ontario from a College of Applied Arts and Technology Polytechnical Institute or Community College or by having the equivalent level of education.
