This position will serve as a senior level Drinking Water Quality Investigation Sanitarian for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Division of Environmental Health Chemical Planning and Response Section Drinking Water and Environmental Sampling Unit. The position will design and review drinking water sampling protocols that investigate the source of chemical contamination oversee the implementation of drinking water sampling protocols provide quality assurance that all aspects of collection labeling and delivery of samples are properly implemented ensure analytical data are logged and managed according to established protocols and summarize and report results as tables graphs figures maps and/or text for each sampling event. The position will interact with the public local health department staff local or state building and code compliance staff local public works staff and contractual staff to implement remediation of in-home sources of chemical contaminants to drinking water. The position will implement budgets for conducting environmental media investigations including overseeing contract documents and processes for contracted sampling services.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelors degree in the physical or biological sciences sanitary science or environmental health.

Experience

Three years of professional experience in the enforcement of environmental health laws equivalent to an Environmental Sanitarian including one year equivalent to an Environmental Sanitarian P11.

Additional Requirements and Information

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 South Grand Avenue Lansing MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense including:

A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
Suitable lighting furniture and utilities.
