POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director Research and Development the Transducer Designer is responsible for the design development analysis and implementation of underwater acoustic transducers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop underwater acoustic transducers.
  • Perform conceptual system design modeling and analysis.
  • Develop simulation algorithms to assess/estimate behavior and performance of transducers using simulation tools including COMSOL.
  • Prototype evaluate and test new transducer designs working with Mechanical and prototyping teams.
  • Perform design reviews including both electrical and mechanical interfacing.
  • Document all research work for future reference.
  • Estimate design tasks and implementation/manufacturing cost.
  • Define test parameters and design verification test reports related to the transducer design.
  • Initiate and implement process improvements related to transducer design testing and production.
  • Research new technologies and bring new concepts into the team for evaluation and implementation.
  • Participate in and support transducer design implementation and manufacturing.
  • Provide support and perform system-level as well as acoustic testing in the test tank and the field.
  • Support Production to resolve transducer-related production issues.
  • Provide internal training for production activities.
  • Write Phase reports implementation and status reports.
  • Support the Engineering team in system testing validation and troubleshooting.
  • Process improvements and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4 Years Post Graduate Degree (PhD) or equivalent combination of education and experience (significant additional experience can substitute for some educational achievement. On average every three years of related industrial experience would count as one year of academic education).
  • Technical training in Acoustics Physics Materials Engineering or Science.
  • This position requires a minimum of 1-3 years in a similar position.
  • Strong understanding of piezoelectric and other electromechanical transducers.
  • Acoustics theory in subsea environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of office packages such as Word Excel and Access.
  • Post Graduate degree in Materials Engineering or Physics specializing in acoustics theory.
  • Solid knowledge of piezoelectric and other electromechanical transducers.
  • Strong understanding of chemical properties of materials such as potting compounds epoxies and polyurethanes.
  • Modeling and predicting performance of underwater transducers using tools such as Matlab COMSOL and others.
  • Knowledge and application experience of scientific methods.
  • Experience with acoustic signal processing.
  • Detailed knowledge of acoustics and sonar systems.
  • Innovative creative and systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to balance and manage quickly changing priorities
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in electronics manufacturing or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and supply chain processes.
