Job Summary

Position: Head High School Cheer Coach - winter season

Reports to: Director of Sports Recreation and Physical Education or Designee Athletic Manager or

Designee and Building Principal or Designee

Employment Status: Extra Duty Supplemental Position (scale 06)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Payment: Stipend will be paid in accordance with established Ohio High School Association

calendars

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in supervising the High School Cheerleading program in total; game contests scrimmages practices (when applicable)
  • Assists in administering the High School Cheerleading program in an efficient and professional manner
  • Collaborate with community partners in the development of a comprehensive K-12 youth program
  • Monitors and supports academic needs of individual students
  • Clearly communicate with coaches/families regarding practice times site etc.
  • Communicate with parents as necessary regarding athletics and athletic issues
  • Ensure beginning of season meeting is scheduled with parents
  • Provide necessary paperwork for student athletes (physicals concussion emergency medical travel releases etc.) and ensure that all forms are collected and maintained appropriately
  • Communicate with administration any issues with coaches and student athletes that should come to their attention
  • Ensure that OHSAA rules and guidelines are followed; Ensure all student athletes are eligible per OHSAA guidelines
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
  • Maintain and improve professional competence
  • Observe ethics of the coaching profession; exhibit professional behavior emotional stability and sound judgment
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g. student grades
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff students and parents
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversation

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Recreation and Physical Education Athletic Manager and Building Principal

Qualifications:

  • Have previous knowledge in the field of cheer
  • Is knowledgeable of OHSAA and CCSD guidelines and regulations
  • Is knowledgeable in game administration scheduling securing officials etc.
  • Able to work flexible hours evenings and weekends
  • Able to work with administrators coaches officials parents and student athletes in a positive manner
  • State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Technology appropriate for assignment

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional requirement to travel daily and overnight
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children
  • Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue
  • Frequent requirement to sit stand walk talk hear see read speak reach stretch with hands and arms crouch kneel climb and stoop
  • Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions i.e. being prepared to come to work on all scheduled work days except calamity days
  • Frequent weekend/evening/summer work
  • Requirement to lift and/or carry up to a maximum of 75 pounds and push/pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds various supplies and/or equipment
