We currently have eight elementary schools three middle schools one high school three alternate programs two Provincial Online Learning options (a teacher-guided Home Learners Program for K-8 and Online Learning options for 9-12) and continuing education options. For the younger learners we also offer a combination of StrongStart programs childcare options and a pilot pre-school.

CASUAL On-Call EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Job Function:

• Reports to the school principal or designate
• Supports the formal education program through the direct supervision of student activities in the school and community in a wide variety of settings
• May assist students with the learning of basic life skills communication skills or socialization skills
• May be actively involved with the child/children during all activities
• Prepares teaching aids and materials
• Provides physical assistance to students who require it
• Expected to provide personal care assistance including but not limited to lifting feeding toileting etc.
• Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 graduation
• Education Assistant certificate or diploma from a recognized college
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
• Special education/child care related experience
• Must acquire specific skills related to students with diverse
• Training and extensive behaviour management experience working with children with autistism
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff students and the community
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions

Salary :

• Education Assistant $34.54 ( $0.15 per hour Labour Market Adjustment)

Hours of work :

• Casual shifts range from 4 to 6 hours per day
