Job Summary

Secure Australias Next-Generation Defence Technology

Silentium Defence is pioneering the future of passive radar and space domain awareness technologies protecting people assets and critical systems through innovation that matters.

As our Product Security Engineer youll play a key role in ensuring the resilience integrity and compliance of our engineering systems and infrastructure. This is a newly created position that will build and embed product security capability across the business. Youll be part of a multidisciplinary team shaping how Silentium Defence designs tests and protects the next generation of sovereign sensing technologies trusted by Defence and critical infrastructure partners.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Security & Infrastructure Lead you will:

  • Integrate security principles controls and testing across all stages of the product development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Conduct threat modelling vulnerability assessments and secure code reviews.
  • Implement and manage security automation within CI/CD pipelines (SAST/DAST).
  • Ensure compliance with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) DISP and Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Develop and maintain security documentation risk assessments security policies and system security plans (SSP) supporting audit readiness and GRC frameworks.
  • Support incident response and vulnerability remediation activities.
  • Stay ahead of emerging cyber threats and technology trends affecting the Defence and critical infrastructure sectors.

What Youll Bring

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5 years cybersecurity experience with at least 2 years in hands-on security engineering.
  • Proven ability to embed security across the software and product lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of ISM DSPF DISP and NIST SP 800-53 frameworks.
  • Minimum certification: CompTIA Security.

Highly Regarded

  • Advanced certifications such as CISSP ISSEP OSCP or CISM.
  • Defence aerospace or critical infrastructure industry experience.
  • Demonstrated capability in GRC tooling audit preparation and supplier assurance (SBOM review).
  • Familiarity with secure coding in Python Bash or C.
  • Linux system security and hardening (AppArmor auditd fapolicyd systemd).
  • Experience developing or integrating DevSecOps pipelines and using security automation tools.
