46743 - 51036the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a exceptional circumstances when relevant skills and experience can be identified a higher starting salary may be considered.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Senior Programme Manager to join our Research Development and Support (ReDS) team. This role is advertised at 90% FTE but there may be the possibility of this increasing to 100% FTE should additional funding being secured. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

Youll be joining our Research Development and Support (ReDS) team but with a close working relationship with our Finance and Operations and Logistics teams as well as the ARIA Creators (Principal Investigators) and their research teams as well as other national and international stakeholders.

In this role youll be instrumental in:-

- Spearheading the successful delivery of high-impact projects of significant strategic importance to the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) through our funding received from the ARIA Opportunity Spaces and Programmes.

- Forging strong collaborative relationships with a diverse array of external stakeholders including the ARIA Programme directorates and a network of national and international partners.

- Driving the setup and execution of truly innovative ARIA-funded scientific endeavours directly contributing your expertise to their groundbreaking success.

- Serving as a vital link and subject matter expert for ARIA-funded grants providing crucial guidance and support to project teams across BAS.

- Contributing to BASs established legacy of managing large-scale international projects while also having the autonomy to introduce and champion new ideas and process improvements.

Within the role there will be an opportunity to:-

- Take ownership of the end-to-end project lifecycle for ARIA-funded initiatives within BAS from initial planning and execution to meticulous monitoring and successful delivery.

- Be at the forefront of supporting cutting-edge science directly involved in helping to deliver highly innovative research projects.

- Cultivate a broad professional network extending beyond BAS connecting with other ARIA-funded projects both nationally and internationally.

- Expand your horizons through potential international travel to conferences and events fostering knowledge exchange and broadening your professional impact.

- Potentially mentor and provide leadership to more junior team member(s) in the future contingent on securing funding.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

Project Management & Delivery: Lead the implementation of GRAIL and Eco-ICE projects developing plans tracking progress managing risks and supporting science teams to meet project requirements and funder guidelines.

Financial Oversight & Reporting: Manage project budgets monitor expenditures ensure sound financial management and take responsibility for quarterly financial reporting and annual audit preparations for GRAIL Eco-ICE and other ARIA-funded projects.

Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration: Support the negotiation of agreements facilitate stakeholder relationship management (including ARIA NERC and international partners) and coordinate the production of reports for funding agencies and stakeholders.

Compliance & Governance: Manage ethical oversight and compliance regulations for projects and organize project meetings including logistics and agenda setting.

Subject Matter Expertise & Knowledge Sharing: Serve as the BAS Subject Matter Expert for ARIA-funded grants leading financial reporting for these projects and sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.

For the role of Senior Programme Manager we are looking for somebody who has:

  • Masters Education in science or administration or equivalent experience

  • Collaborative Team Player with Strong Communication: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organization effectively communicate progress and issues and build positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Financial Acumen & Budget Management: Highly numerate with experience in managing project budgets including forecasting tracking and reporting coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address financial and logistical challenges.

  • Excellent Organizational & Time Management: Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

  • Proven Project/Programme Management Expertise: A strong track record in effectively managing projects or programmes ideally within a research or international collaboration setting. Utilisation of methodologies like Agile Waterfall or PRINCE2 may be helpful but we are open to applicants who have equivalent experience.

  • Effective Stakeholder Engagement & Negotiation: Strong communication interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels facilitate constructive engagement and achieve successful outcomes.

  • Understanding of Research Environment & Compliance: Appreciation of research ethics governance experience supporting contract processes within the research grant lifecycle and flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
