The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Cashier (Accounting Technician) position in the Financial Services Division (FSD) Accounting & Cash Tax Section (ACTS).

  • There is one full-time permanent position.

  • This position is full-time in-office based at our headquarters office in Tigard Oregon.

  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

We serve the people of Oregon by administering public employee benefit trusts to pay the right person the right benefit at the right time.

Financial Services Division (FSD)

FSD has a diverse and broad scope of responsibilities; FSD provides comprehensive financial services to the agency. This includes financial accounting reporting and tax services for all PERS Trust and agency fund activities including the Retirement Fund Deferred Compensation funds Benefit Equalization Fund Health Insurance and Social Security Programs. FSD also includes PERS Retiree Health Insurance (PHIP) and the Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP) Deferred Compensation programs are also integrated and managed within the division. The Division is responsible for managing all the financial capital resources of the agency as well as program service delivery to participants of the PHIP and OSGP programs. Through FSD management we disburse over $3.6 billion annually in member and beneficiary benefits and receive $1.68 billion in member and employer contributions that are invested in the PERS fund. FSD business functions include preparation and reporting of the agencys biennial budget coordination of actuarial services fiscal analysis accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Accounting & Cash Tax Section (ACTS)

The Accounting & Cash Tax Section is responsible for the accounting and financial operations for the Benefit Equalization Social Security Administration Deferred Comp & Health Insurance programs (RHIA RHIPA & SHRIA) Cash Receipts and Accounts Receivable programs. ACTS is accountable for PERS Accounts Receivable and agency collection programs. The Section has a staff of eleven financial-related positions. ACTS will be responsible for the receipt reconciliation posting and tracking of over $1 billion in funds annually for the trusts and programs.

What you will be doing:

As the Cashier (Accounting Technician) you will be responsible for safeguarding processing and depositing payments and treating confidential matters and materials appropriately. You will also be responsible for identifying and resolving system generated errors and reconciling registers and processing remittance advices.

What Are We Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience calculating recording and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety balancing and resolving discrepancies in computer edits;

OR

One year of experience calculating recording and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety balancing and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college university or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2;

OR

Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university;

OR

At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college university or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with accounting in the title.

Training or experience must include using a computer to enter update or retrieve information.
