Job Summary

The Simulation Educator supports faculty and instructors in designing facilitating and evaluating high-quality simulation-based learning experiences across Micheners health profession programs. Working within the Centre for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning (CETL) the Simulation Educator provides educational guidance faculty mentorship and simulation delivery support including the operation of simulation and audiovisual technologies to ensure simulation activities align with learning outcomes accreditation standards and evidence-based practices.

This role contributes to Micheners institutional commitment to advancing simulation-based education through faculty development curriculum integration and continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities: 

Faculty and Curriculum Support

  • Partner with faculty and instructors to develop refine and facilitate simulation activities that align with program learning outcomes and assessment objectives.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on simulation pedagogy including scenario design pre-briefing facilitation and debriefing strategies.
  • Review and recommend improvements to simulation curriculum components to ensure consistency and quality across programs.
  • Collaborate with CETL colleagues to integrate new simulation technologies and methodologies into academic programming.

Simulation Facilitation and Quality Assurance

  • Support delivery of simulation sessions by ensuring readiness flow and adherence to educational best practices.
  • Operate simulation equipment including high- and low-fidelity manikins task trainers and audiovisual systems during simulation sessions.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to test and run simulation scenarios ensuring equipment and software function as intended before delivery.
  • Ensure simulations reflect recognized standards of practice for the health professions (e.g. regulatory or professional bodies) and align with current best practices in simulation-based education.
  • Monitor and evaluate simulation activities to identify opportunities for improvement and share feedback with faculty and CETL leadership.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to simulation-based education.

Faculty Development and Collaboration

  • Contribute to faculty development workshops resources and consultations focused on simulation-based teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with program teams CETL and institutional leadership to support innovation and excellence in simulation-based education.
  • Participate in simulation-related committees working groups and institutional projects.

Resource Management and Coordination

  • Ensure that required equipment spaces and resources are available and prepared for scheduled simulations.
  • Assist in evaluating and prioritizing technology and equipment needs that support simulation-based learning.
  • Support CETL-led tours events or demonstrations showcasing simulation at Michener.

Qualifications :

  • Registered or certified health professional with a bachelors degree in health sciences or a related field and current or previous clinical experience in a healthcare setting; required.
  • 13 years of experience in simulation-based education curriculum design or healthcare instruction; required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of simulation pedagogy (e.g. scenario design facilitation debriefing and assessment) and an understanding of healthcare practice and interprofessional education contexts.
  • Proficiency in operating simulation technologies including high- and low-fidelity manikins task trainers audiovisual systems and related control software.
  • Strong communication facilitation and collaboration skills to support faculty at varying levels of simulation experience.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools used for simulation scheduling or learning management.

Assets:

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or equivalent credential.
  • Experience working in post-secondary education clinical education or faculty development.
  • Familiarity with virtual or immersive simulation modalities.
  • Experience contributing to simulation quality improvement or standardization initiatives.
