We are hiring a regular full-time Operating Room Nurse Educator at St. Pauls Hospital! This role is great for those looking to support nursing staff through education mentorship and practice development in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager/Practice Consultant and receiving work direction from the Practice Consultant Education Strategist this role provides visible accessible clinical education support and promotes patient- and family-centred care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support nursing staff by acting as a clinical education resource in practice areas.
  • Develop implement and evaluate formal and informal education programs and learning plans.
  • Assess individual and group learning needs and support ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote continuous quality improvement.
  • Integrate CASN Nursing Informatics Entry-to-Practice Competencies into education and practice.

What You Bring

Education

  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
  • Three years recent related nursing experience in perioperative nursing including one year of experience (or training) in areas such as teaching leadership mentoring and preceptoring facilitating group processes team building orientation/education program design development implementation and evaluation.
  • Educator Pathway education is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach coach and provide clinical support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to identify learning needs and develop educational programs.
  • Ability to provide and/or develop resource materials including educational materials.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of adult education principles.
  • Ability to lead a group.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work independently.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including computers.

Your Day to Day:

  • Assess and validate individual and group learning needs by observing practice consulting with staff and patients/families and reviewing data such as competency assessments growth plans practice changes and quality improvement indicators.
  • Plan develop implement coordinate and evaluate formal and informal education programs to meet identified learning needs in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager/Practice Consultant and nursing staff.
  • Orient coach mentor and support staff preceptors preceptees and students through role modeling clinical teaching and the development and monitoring of individual growth plans.
  • Act as a visible clinical education resource by facilitating learning monitoring progress against growth plans and adapting teaching strategies to support staff development and achievement.
  • Ensure education content aligns with established standards and reflects current peer-reviewed evidence-based best practices including integration of CASN Nursing Informatics Entry-to-Practice Competencies.
  • Contribute to quality improvement research risk management and policy review initiatives by evaluating practice participating in audits and committees and promoting the integration of research into practice.
  • Maintain documentation records utilization statistics and reports; provide input on performance planning resources space equipment and staffing needs and perform related duties as assigned.
