As a Financial Analyst you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality financial reporting performance analysis and strategic insights across the Department of Planning Housing & Infrastructure (DPHI). This position sits within the Budget Strategy & Performance team part of Corporate Services Finance and is responsible for producing timely accurate and insightful financial management information to support informed decision-making by senior finance and non-finance executives.

Your responsibilities will range from

  • Coordinating responses to financial data requests from Senior Executives and NSW Treasury.
  • Preparing detailed accurate and timely financial reports briefs and analysis that support strategic business management and decision-making.
  • Providing expert financial advice to Executives and Senior managers across DPHI identifying performance trends and opportunities to inform and guide the implementation of business improvement opportunities.
  • Supporting the co-ordination and delivery of DPHIs annual budget processes and production of associated reports analysis and presentations.
  • Delivering timely professional support to the senior management in the development of briefings including for budget estimates and Cabinet Minutes with financial impacts and funding proposals.
  • Collaborate with financial reporting and business partnering teams to enhance financial systems reporting processes and capability.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Strong understanding of government functions financial policies and sector standards
  • Experience providing high-quality financial advice and technical support to senior managers
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience consulting across diverse teams and government agencies.
  • Advanced skills in analysing financial data preparing reports and presenting insights
  • A proactive and accountable approach to work with a commitment to ethical standards and public sector values.
  • Excellent communication skills able to explain complex ideas clearly and tailor messages for executive audiences.
  • Customer-focused approach with a knack for solving problems and improving outcomes

What is an essential requirement:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting Commerce or similar discipline and full membership of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) Australia or the Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CAANZ).
