The Louisiana Department of Health Office of Public Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join the Region 2 team. This role provides advanced primary and preventive healthcare across multiple parishes offering a unique opportunity to make a statewide impact.

The APRN delivers patient-centered care collaborates with physicians and health professionals and responds to public health emergencies such as hurricanes flooding and disease outbreaks. Statewide fieldwork inspections and investigations are an ongoing part of this dynamic role.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or a temporary permit.

NOTE:
The temporary APRN permit allows an APRN applicant to work in a limited capacity for up to 120 days while awaiting review for full APRN licensure by the nursing board. An APRN applicant cannot medically diagnose or medically manage patients until they are licensed and have prescriptive authority. If the APRN license is not received within the 120-day period and the permit expires the employee must be removed from the position.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Conducts comprehensive health assessments including medical histories and physical examinations to diagnose conditions provide medical care and determine appropriate referrals.
  • Plans implements and evaluates individualized care plans to meet patient health needs and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Performs physical examinations such as pap smears breast and pelvic exams and inserts Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) as requested by patients.
  • Reviews and interprets laboratory and diagnostic data determines diagnoses prescribes pharmaceuticals and collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Provides advanced primary and preventive healthcare to individuals families and communities while identifying health care needs and allocating resources appropriately.
  • Offers counseling and education to patients families and community members on health problems treatments preventive care and available resources.
  • Provides professional expertise and technical guidance to nursing and ancillary staff participates in quality assurance activities and contributes to developing and evaluating healthcare programs and standards of practice.
