Reporting directly to the Dean of the Daniels College of Business the Associate Dean of Finance & Business Operations is responsible for the fiscal health of the Daniels College of Business. The Associate Dean will provide high quality creative and solutions-oriented financial direction and expertise at the strategic operational and administrative levels of the College. The Associate Dean is responsible for all financial and administrative activities at the College including but not limited to budget development and management personnel management financial policies procedures and controls financial aid strategic initiatives and facilities and technology management. The position has a dotted reporting line to the Offices of the Provost and Business & Affairs on matters relating to budget development planning and management.
Essential Functions
Fiscal Management
- Wholly responsible for dynamic budgetary planning forecasting and fiscal management in a tuition-bearing and strategic revenue-generating unit with $75M revenue $47M expenses $5.7M designated funds $103M endowments.
- Direct the analysis and interpretation of financial information in the development of operational plans; ensure all gift and endowment funded programs and activities are properly and accurately funded; forecast critical milestones and potential obstacles and evaluate alternate courses of action.
- Lead the development of College policies and procedures to govern financial decision-making ensuring the achievement of revenue objectives and expense management; collaborate with the Dean Associate Deans and Academic Chairs to balance short-term and long-term objectives to maximize the financial performance for the College.
- Recommend and implement long-range financial objectives to meet strategic goals including growth projections and expense management plans.
- Form partnerships with Academic Chairs and Program Directors to translate department goals and objectives into clear and understandable budgets and identify existing resources or strategize methods to obtain new resources.
- Evaluate and revise policies procedures and internal controls to support efficiency and effectiveness throughout the College and in support of University strategic goals.
Accounting and Personnel Management
- Oversee fiscal activity of the College including but not limited to journal entries check requests expense reports purchasing and validate funding sources.
- Oversee administrative assistants ensuring transactions are done on-time within policy and within budget.
- Review and analyze all endowments and gifts for to ensure proper and effective usage in addition to substantiated funding.
- Direct human resource transactions including but not limited to job postings offers and hires separations ensuring alignment with budgets.
- Maintain complete and accurate employment records for all faculty and staff which includes but is not limited to offers promotions reappointments administrative appointments fellowships sabbaticals and separations.
- Liaise with HR Partner on personnel matters to ensure the College is operating within University policy and employment laws.
- Coordinate with HR Partner regarding workforce planning performance management and people development.
- Review quarterly adjunct non-benefited and student hires ensuring operational and budgetary needs are met.
- Monitor faculty load specifically to determine course buyouts and faculty overload.
- Oversee payroll for overload summer teaching and summer support ensuring payments are accurate documented and within policy.
Financial Aid
- Create and manage an improved process for undergraduate & graduate financial aid.
- Ensure funded scholarships are maximized and awarded in accordance with donor terms and conditions.
- Ensure funded scholarships are properly awarded prior to the start of each academic quarter.
- Manage unfunded aid to meet net tuition and enrollment goals.
- Analyze the graduate assistant award process and revise policy to strategically utilize program to the greater benefit of students and faculty.
- Develop and foster a positive working relationship with University Financial Aid.
Facilities & Technology
- Oversee management and operations of Daniels College of Business Margery Reed Building and Joy Burns Building.
- Oversee all facilities changes including office moves renovation & construction projects.
- Ensure building plans including office assignments and space usage are up-to-date.
- Coordinate response to annual space and inventory surveys.
- Oversee the technology and computer inventory and replacement plan.
Leadership
- Create an organization of professionals to manage the following functional areas: accounting reporting & personnel; financial aid; facilities & technology; MBA financial management; and the Deans Office administrative assistance.
- Develop and mentor professionals in the organization to ensure performance and growth.
- Campaign within the College to ease misconceptions and create a positive relationship between the College and University Administration with the ultimate goal of establishing DCB as positive role model.
Other
- Communicate with external advisory groups ranking agencies and accreditation boards providing accurate financial admissions and enrollment information.
- Foster positive and effective relationships with the leadership and administrative departments of the University; represent the College throughout the University providing essential collaboration and communication to support strategic goals of the University.
- Serve as a confidante and adviser to the Dean on business strategic and personnel issues.
- Establish leadership role among University business officers serving as a mentor and collaborating on policies.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business
- Ten years of progressive extensive and diverse experience involving direct financial management responsibility
- Five years management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in business or related field or equivalent practical experience
- Five years of experience in budget operations or financial management in higher education
- Three years of experience at the University of Denver
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $150000 - $175000
