The Planning and Development Department is actively seeking a Professional Architect.

City of Jacksonville employees are also eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after 10 years of public service and on-time payments.This is professional architectural work at the lead worker level in planning reviewing and designing new buildings facilities structures and renovations or expansions. Work requires a knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture which is gained through a combination of education and extensive experience. Plans schedules coordinates and reviews the work of assigned personnel. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing others to obtain desired results and are important in coordinating activities. The work is covered by clearly defined policies and principles where the incumbent is required to exercise judgment in accomplishing objectives. The work is performed in an office and field environments where there are some risks and hazards but they are known predictable and controllable. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer specialized systems and motor vehicle. The physical demands consist of sitting or standing on occasion walking and lifting and moving objects weighing up to 20 lb. The work is performed under administrative direction where the work is reviewed in terms of feasibility and compatibility with other projects and effectiveness in meeting requirements or required results. Examples of Work
- Oversees and reviews the design and preparation of plans specifications and engineering cost estimates for the construction operation and/or maintenance of municipal projects requiring architectural services to include capital improvement projects and proposed project applications for building permitting.
- Plans designs reviews and prepares schematic diagrams for construction or renovation of buildings facilities and structures.
- Prepares construction contract documents for bidding.
- Prepares cost estimates.
- Reviews design drawings and specifications for compliance with Florida Building Code program requirements scope of work and budgetary considerations.
- Reviews and approves payments to consultants for work completed.
- Schedules and conducts design coordination meetings.
- Reviews shop drawings submitted by contractors.
- Reviews completed buildings and construction projects for compliance with drawings specifications building code and workmanship standards.
- Provides updated estimates for design construction or land acquisition needs of city agencies by planning future maintenance renovations or capital improvement costs.
- Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer using word processing spreadsheet database and construction related software.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonvilles competencies.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the practices and principles of architecture.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
- Eight (8) years of education and/or experience in architectural work.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- The probationary period for this classification is 6 months.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
- A valid drivers license Is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
- Must qualify for prior to appointment obtain and maintain during employment a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.
- FLA Professional Architect Registration is required & must be maintained.
- If an active Professional Licensed Architect from another state must transfer or obtain registration in Florida as a Professional Architect within 6-months of employment.
