Senior Therapist Physical Therapy
Location: Moreno Valley Medical Center

The County of Riverside Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Rehabilitation Department has an opening for a Full-Time Permanent Senior Therapist position.

This role is responsible for daily coordination of in-patient PT operations daily assignment list staff training orientation and mentoring. The incumbent will be tasked with verifying staff competencies representing the department in various committees and other collaborations with other departments.

The schedule is Monday through Friday with rotating weekends and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements:

2 years as a licensed occupational therapist Speech Language Pathologist or a licensed physical therapist.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

License: Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist with the California Board of Occupational Therapy Speech-Language Pathologist with the California Board of Speech-Language Pathology or as a licensed Physical Therapist with the California Board of Physical Therapy (a physical therapist applicant lacking California licensure may be temporarily employed subject to the requirements of the California Board of Physical Therapy).

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Plan administer and guide therapy treatments for the most difficult and complex cases for physically handicapped children.

Assist in the guidance and coordination of a staff of occupational or physical therapists assigned to a medical therapy unit in a public school; as requested or assigned give technical advice to staff therapists.

May assist the unit supervisor in providing training for therapy students or new therapists routed through the unit for orientation and training.

Provide the prescribing physician with initial evaluations specialized test results periodic progress notes and discharge notes as well as verbal reports in specialized conferences and clinics.

Interview parents for historical information on the childs condition and observe patient to determine physical capacity; administer performance tests to determine patients ability to function outside of the treatment environment.

Administer therapy treatments in accordance with general instructions from the physician in charge of each case; bring physically handicapped children to maximum level of functioning in self-care and daily living activities.

Plan and supervise group activities; develop design and construct or direct the construction of special equipment.

Give instruction to parents of physically handicapped children on the construction of special equipment and suitable activities for the continuation of treatments at home; evaluate effectiveness of treatment.

Suggest treatment changes and discuss treatment with physician; schedule patient treatments; coordinate and train volunteer aides and therapy students.

Attend meetings and conferences; prepare reports and maintain records; order necessary supplies and equipment; cooperate with teaching staff of the school site.

Assist in supervision of clinic operations and act in absence of supervisor; assist in the training and evaluation of student therapists; assist as a liaison between a medical therapy unit school personnel and other community agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Experience: Two years as a licensed occupational therapist Speech Language Pathologist or a licensed physical therapist. For assignments in a California Childrens Services setting one year of the required experience must have been in pediatrics.

Knowledge of:
Therapeutic techniques activities and equipment used in occupational or physical therapy work with particular emphasis on the physical and psychological problems of children with cerebral palsy; growth and development of children; skeletal anatomy; kinesiology neurology and the objectives of occupational or physical therapy treatment.

Ability to:
Plan organize and conduct an occupational or physical therapy program; apply occupational or physical therapy techniques in observing testing and evaluating patients; explain occupational or physical therapy treatments to physically handicapped children; deal effectively with handicapped children and their parents; prepare reports and keep records of case histories; assist in coordinating and directing a medical therapy unit instruction program.

License:
Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist with the California Board of Occupational Therapy Speech-Language Pathologist with the California Board of Speech-Language Pathology or as a licensed Physical Therapist with the California Board of Physical Therapy (a physical therapist applicant lacking California licensure may be temporarily employed subject to the requirements of the California Board of Physical Therapy).
