Job Summary

Title: Community Engagement Specialist

Supervised by: Director of Community Engagement

Classification: Full Time Salaried Exempt

Starting Pay: $73000 per year

Position Summary. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for promoting and organizing social and relationship-building activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal of this role is to combat loneliness and isolation and to help people experience belonging in their community.

Responsibilities

  • Identify or create activities that promote relationship building and belonging for people supported by Jubilee. Activities should be organized taking into consideration the leadership of people with disabilities and the integration of people with and without disabilities.

  • Plan and lead educational classes that will teach life and social skills at least two times a week.

  • Oversee regular community activities at least three times a week. These activities should be planned and shaped with input from the Activity Planning Committee. The APC is a committee comprised of people receiving services from Jubilee.

  • Organize annual events such as Valentines Day dance Christmas party Hanukkah party Jubilee picnic beach trip etc. with input from the Activity Planning Committee and in partnership with other Community Engagement team members.

  • Assist in creating and executing annual goals for the Community Engagement department.

  • Assist the Director of Community Engagement in organizing and leading special committees dedicated to nurturing community life celebrating birthdays recognizing momentous milestones etc.

  • Assume responsibility for tasks or projects delegated by the Director of Community Engagement and other duties as assigned.

  • Most events and activities for which the Specialist will be responsible may occur in the evenings and on weekends.

  • This position allows for some remote work but the Community Engagement Specialist is expected to spend at least three days a week in Jubilees Kensington office and lead in-person activities.

Qualifications

  • A strong desire to connect and engage with people.

  • Associates degree required; Bachelors degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience preferably in a nonprofit environment.

  • Teaching experience is preferred.

  • Bilingual fluent in written and spoken Spanish and English is a plus but not required.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to effectively manage documents and projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. People-first language and thinking is essential.

  • Strong technology skills to effectively use Outlook Word databases Excel etc.

  • Desire to work with and learn from people who have intellectual disabilities required.


Compensation. This position has a fixed starting salary of $73000 per year. Benefits include 4 weeks of vacation 2 weeks of sick leave health/dental/life/disability insurance 3% retirement match after one year 7 paid holidays $1000 student loan assistance or tuition reimbursement paid training opportunities Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for medical and dependent care expenses periodic reimbursement of vacation expenses and more. Depending on personal situations additional paid leave may apply such as parental leave bereavement leave and jury service. Eligibility for some benefits starts at 20 or 30 hours of work per week.

This role is hybrid and requires in-person work at Jubilees offices and worksites. All employees must have a Covid vaccine before starting work.
