Provides recreational activities leisure education and treatment for people with mental physical or emotional disabilities or illnesses to improve or maintain their health and well-being.Job Description
Selects develops and implements recreational activities to help clients improve physical mental and social functions. Assesses clients needs and interests based on observations standardized assessments medical records etc. for the selection and development of therapeutic recreations. Thorough knowledge of therapeutic recreational therapy theory and practices. Documents appropriately to meet regulatory requirements per assigned setting on behalf of the clients participation and reactions during therapeutic recreation treatments; tracks patients progress and evaluates therapeutic effects. Provides adaptive equipment to help clients with disabilities participate in recreational activities assigned in treatment plans. May assist with and/or provide community integration as part of their treatment. When necessary will participate with facilitating support groups as well as coordinating volunteers.
Associate degree preferred.
Two years experience in this field preferred. Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics. Experience in social services or creative activities. Minimum of one year previous leadership/management experience preferred.
In a skilled long-term care facility applicants must qualify for facility-sponsored certification as an activities professional through a recognized accrediting body. The facility will cover the cost of certification. Completion of a state-approved accredited training program is required.
The following requirements are all dependent upon the on work location:
Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS).
Depending on location this role classifies as a Sanford Category I or II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid drivers license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy.
Qualifications
