Job Summary

GIS Technician III Location: Birmingham AL Contract- 3 Years Client- Alabama Power Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced GIS Technician III to lead and oversee technical GIS operations within our organization. This role requires a deep understanding of GIS tools databases and methodologies to ensure accurate data management visualization and analysis. The ideal candidate will take ownership of complex GIS projects mentor junior staff and collaborate with internal stakeholders to support strategic decision-making through high-quality geospatial solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and manage day-to-day GIS technical operations.
Lead complex GIS projects from data acquisition and management to visualization and analysis.
Ensure optimal data accuracy consistency and compliance with GIS standards.
Mentor and support junior GIS technicians in technical and procedural tasks.
Engage with engineers planners and stakeholders to define GIS requirements and deliver actionable solutions.
Develop and implement GIS strategies that align with organizational goals.
Drive continuous improvement of GIS methodologies tools and workflows.
Manage and maintain GIS databases ensuring data integrity and proper documentation.
Support data integration initiatives with other enterprise systems.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Geospatial Science or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on GIS experience in data management spatial analysis and project coordination.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Suite ArcGIS Pro and related GIS software.
- Experience managing geodatabases spatial datasets and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with SQL databases Python scripting or ModelBuilder is a plus.
- Understanding of coordinate systems projections and spatial data modeling.
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Excellent analytical organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Preferred Attributes

Experience in utilities energy or infrastructure sectors.
Knowledge of CAD/GIS integration and asset management systems.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead GIS professionals in a team environment.
