About Potash
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewans history Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Jansens construction will take place over several years with first production planned for mid-2027. Once fully ramped up Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location
This position will be based in Saskatoon. The associated work schedule will be 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. Hybrid working (flexible shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Purpose
The Principal Procurement Utilities will deliver utility planning and sourcing arrangements that meet the needs of the Potash business. The work will include development of contract strategies and formation complex strategic negotiations stakeholder engagement at all levels internal and external and sound understanding of the regulatory environment.
About the Role
In this role you will:
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter the BHP Standards (Our Requirements and Business Critical Documents) Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
- Have an overriding commitment to health safety environment responsibility and sustainable development
- Manage multiple stakeholder relationships across Potash Projects and Operations Global Functions including Marketing Finance Legal and external service providers
- Apply an understanding of end-to-end Utility supply to enhance efficiency drive optimization and maximize value
- Evaluate risk profiles key value drivers and contracting options to inform the development of contracting strategies and contracts in alignment with execution strategies
- Gain support for and negotiate outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals
- Determine the underlying cause of problems and evaluate multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own the commercial strategy and relationship for Jansen utility supply
- Develop short- and long-term energy forecasts that inform budget planning contracting decisions and operational scheduling in conjunction with Operations
- Manage natural gas transportation and purchasing through TransGas and Alberta AECO market connections to ensure secure and cost-effective supply
- Manage load optimization to reduce peak demand charges and ensure continuity of energy supply during grid or transmission constraints
- Participate in SaskPower industrial rate programs and explore opportunities for load management interruptible service or behind-the-meter generation
- Support backup generation and emergency energy procedures for power interruptions or natural gas curtailments during extreme weather events.
- Ensure compliance with Saskatchewan environmental and energy regulations including GHG reporting and carbon pricing mechanisms (e.g. OBPS federal fuel charge)
- Monitor & incorporate SaskPower TransGas and SaskEnergy rate designs tariffs and regulatory updates impacting operations
- Conduct technical and economic feasibility studies reflecting Saskatchewans utility rate structures and incentive programs (e.g. SaskPowers energy efficiency initiatives)
- Establish energy performance indicators (EnPIs) in line with site production metrics and Saskatchewans operating conditions (e.g. heating demand seasonal load)
About You
You will have:
- Significant experience in utilities industry commercial and contract management roles
- A track record of excellence in contract negotiation
- Tertiary qualifications in commercial finance engineering or related disciplines
- A high degree of business acumen with deep understanding of project execution risks and operational requirements
- Experience in strategic thinking robust planning and risk management; and
- Strong communication skills to various senior stakeholders written and verbal. Ability to tailor communications and interactions to a wide variety of stakeholder groups
You will have understanding and experience in:
- Governance and contract approval stewardship
- Relating well with people in an engaging style which quickly enables building of trust and strong relationships with stakeholders
- Operating in complex and ambiguous environments
- Commercial management through all phases of a capital project lifecycle and into Operations
