PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Politics Online is looking for a journalist who will write for our digital output. The role requires someone who can write stories including breaking news in one of the busiest teams in the BBC.

- Apply knowledge of British politics and governmental institutions to inform accurate and insightful journalism.
- Research and write high-quality political content for digital platforms drawing on substantial experience in journalism.
- Monitor and respond rapidly to breaking political news ensuring timely and relevant coverage in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Collaborate within a high-profile editorial team demonstrating resilience under pressure.
- Generate original story ideas and identify emerging political trends to engage and grow the audience.
- Maintain editorial standards and contribute to shaping the political news agenda through informed reporting.
- Identify and write stories that reflect every facet of audience interest and the evolving political landscape
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Experienced writer working to tight deadlines and across fast moving and breaking news stories.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of all aspects of UK politics at Westminster and across the UK.
- Ability to come up with ideas and spot trends in politics likely to engage the audience and attract new and underserved readers.
- A strong background and demonstrable evidence of writing breaking and continuing stories. You should provide evidence of both developing new lines on moving political stories and explaining complex situations clearly.
- A track record as a writer who can examine complex political stories impartially and fairly.
- Evidence of an understanding of how to spot a good political story ability to tell those stories in an engaging way and how to recognise reaching the widest range of audiences around the UK.
- An understanding of the main production methods and technology of BBC News across digital as well as familiarity with new initiatives in digital and social media in the BBC and wider media.
