Job Summary

Summary:The Center for Student Success seeks a candidate for our Academic Support Coordinator position which is a vital role in our mission to provide support services to maximize student learning and prepare them to meet opportunities and challenges at Queens and beyond. The Academic Support Coordinator provides leadership and administrative oversight for the development implementation and assessment of learning support opportunities that assist with student academic success and retention. This full-time 12-month benefits-eligible position reports to the Director of Learning & Writing Support Services.

This position is exempt fromprovisionsof the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off foradditionalhours worked. This position is not eligible for visasponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Manage daily operations of the peer education programs (i.e. subject tutoring writing support supplemental instruction and RoadMap Scholars and other peer educator programs as needed) including administrative management of the tutoring scheduling system
  • Establish acollaborativerelationship with campus partners to support student learning
    • Promote the services of the Center for Student Success including all student learning support programs
    • Participate in required training meetings and professional development activities as assigned
    • Collaborate with the Director concerning improvement of peer educator programs including program and institutional assessment

Supervision &Services

  • Hire supervise train observe mentor and evaluate peer educators related to the above-referenced programs
  • Developand assesstraining and educational materials to increase understanding ofcollaborative learningknowledge of effective tutoring strategiesand professional developmentof peer educators
  • Support graduate and undergraduate writers as needed
  • Conduct instructional sessions as requested

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs
  • Assist students and guests who visit CSS
  • Represent CSS at various campus-wide functions as assigned.

Experience Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelors degreerequired; masters degree preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal written presentation
  • Strong reasoning skills and the ability to define problems collect data establish facts draw valid conclusions and make well-thought-through recommendations
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience which may include:
    1. Experience in a higher education learning and writing center
  • Supervision training and scheduling experience
    1. Program development and management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal written presentation
  • Strong reasoning skills and the ability to define problems collect data establish facts draw valid conclusions and make well-thought-through recommendations

Physical Requirements(with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Visual Abilities: Read reports create presentations and use a computer system.
  • Hearing: Hear well enough to communicate with co-workers vendors and students.
  • Dexterity Grasping Feeling: Write type and use the telephone copier and computer systems.

  • Talking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately loudly or quickly.
  • Lifting Pulling Pushing:Exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions 75-100% of the time.

Work Conditions:

  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet requirements of the position including occasional nights and/or weekends.
  • Work in office and event-space environments involving contact with prospective and current clients faculty staff service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines multiple interruptions high volume and may be stressful at times.
