OVERVIEW
The Program Manager Recycling Material Auditing is responsible for maintaining and evolving the Material Cost Differentiation methodology ensuring equitable and data-driven allocation of costs across material categories. This role involves leading field studies managing data collection and analysis and fostering collaboration with internal teams and external partners. A key focus is on executing a Material Costing Differentiation methodology roadmap and delivering insights that inform program strategies and operational improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Methodology Maintenance
- Execute a comprehensive maintenance roadmap with clear milestones deliverables and timelines integrating them into program planning and operational frameworks.
- Monitor progress identify risks and propose mitigation strategies to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams producers and external partners to ensure alignment transparency and successful implementation of the methodology.
- Develop training materials and lead sessions to build internal and external understanding of the methodology and its implications.
Field Studies and Data Collection
- Plan and oversee field studies to gather data on material composition performance and associated costs ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and the broader roadmap.
- Ensure alignment of field study objectives with the overall Material Cost Differentiation Methodology roadmap and organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with external consultants and service providers to execute studies validate methodologies and maintain high standards of data integrity through QA/QC processes.
Analysis and Reporting
- Lead the analysis of material composition and associated costs to support the methodology and ensure that resulting fees for materials are fair equitable and designed to encourage behaviour change.
- Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate the potential impact of methodology changes on fee structures producer obligations and system performance.
- Analyze material revenues and resulting fee offsets to ensure materials receive appropriate financial recognition.
- Develop and deliver presentations dashboards and visualization tools to communicate insights trends and roadmap progress to stakeholders; provide regular updates that highlight data-driven improvements and strategic milestones.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments and industry trends to ensure the methodology remains responsive to evolving compliance requirements and sustainability goals.
- Explore opportunities to leverage the methodology to encourage better material choices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science Sustainability Packaging Technology Material Science Waste Management or a related field.
- Certifications or coursework in waste auditing recycling systems or sustainable packaging would be valuable.
- Experience with GIS data visualization tools or field research methodologies are a strong asset.
- Certifications in project management data analysis or auditing are an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 57 years of experience in an operations or environmental management setting ideally with exposure to packaging materials recycling systems and waste auditing practices within either the private or municipal sector.
- Audit experience: certified internal auditor or similar.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong project management skills with a focus on roadmap execution and milestone tracking.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data tools (e.g. Power BI Excel).
- Demonstrated ability to develop clear compelling visualizations and presentations with a strong aptitude for translating complex concepts into accessible audience-appropriate formats.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- All CM employees work 40 hours per week remotely from a home office environment.
- Up to 10-15% travel throughout Canada.
- Peak work periods (quarterly reporting business planning/budgeting) may require extended hours to meet deadlines.
