Job Description:
The successful candidate for the position Project Geologist/Engineer Environmental Remediation will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to help cleanup one of USAs largest Superfund Sites. The successful candidate will be integrated into the project management team assist in developing the long range vision as well as day to day management of large programs. This incudes sampling and analysis programs remediation programs construction programs and reporting programs. The sampling and analysis program supports compliance with existing RCRA CERCLA and NPDES programs. Annually more than 3000 locations are sampled and the total budget for sample collection and laboratory analysis is more than $2.5M. The remediation program includes utility scale groundwater extraction and treatment extensive excavations soil vapor extraction systems etc. The annual expenditure on these projects exceeds $10M. The construction program includes oversight of multiple disciplines including mechanical civil electrical and controls contractors. Typical projects include construction of groundwater monitoring and extraction wells soil excavation projects construction and implementation of soil vapor extraction systems and groundwater extraction and treatment system upgrades/repairs. The annual budget for construction related projects is more than $5M. The successful candidate will also prepare routine reports such as quarterly monitoring reports quarterly progress reports annual remedial system performance evaluations and updates to the Standard Operating Procedures Quality Assurance Program Plan and Groundwater Monitoring addition the successful candidate will assist Senior Environmental Remediation staff in the preparation of more complex documents such as Remedial Investigation Reports Feasibility Studies Remedial Action Plans Work Plans etc.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to lift 50-lb
- 40-hr HAZWOPER certified with annual refreshers
- Knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses safety shoes hard hat Tyvek etc.
- Proficiency with MS Office software suite including MS Word MS Excel MS Power Point
- Valid California drivers license
- US Citizen or Permanent US Resident
- Ability to work outside standard 7am-5pm work schedules
- Ability to walk or hike across uneven terrain
- Roughly 50% field work/50% office work
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- A Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Geology Hydrogeology Engineering Chemistry Earth Science etc.) and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related field. Experience must include collecting soil groundwater and surface water samples under CERCLA QAPP protocols familiarity with and assistance with preparation of routine reports such as quarterly monitoring reports sampling and analysis plans work plans and completion reports.
- Ability to obtain Registration as Professional Geologist or Professional Engineers License within 5 years.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role in California is $69000 - 128000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
