The Opportunity:

As UK Claims Operations Manager youll be a key member of the UK Claims Leadership Team reporting directly to the Claims & Legal Services Director. Youll take ownership of the strategic development and daytoday delivery of our central claims support services including oversight of operational performance MI delegated authorities audits and continuous improvement across the entire UK Claims function and Markel Law.

This role combines people leadership operational excellence and strategic thinking making it ideal for someone who enjoys improving services developing others and leading change.

What Youll Be Responsible For:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team supporting the UK Claims function

  • Create a highperformance culture that balances challenge support and accountability

  • Proactively manage capacity performance and resourcing to meet service demands

  • Drive continuous development of people processes and ways of working

Claims Operations & Support Services:

  • Oversee claims administration across the division ensuring work is handled efficiently at the right level and in line with SLAs

  • Manage peaks in claim volumes to protect service quality and customer experience

  • Ensure transparent timely communication with brokers and insured clients

MI Insight & Governance:

  • Own the production and quality of management information across UK Claims

  • Deliver robust reporting on claim volumes financial movements trends and performance

  • Monitor and report on delegated claims arrangements and external service providers

  • Support senior stakeholders with insight to inform decisionmaking across Claims Underwriting and Actuarial teams

Audit Risk & Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead the Claims Journey Audit process and embed feedback loops that drive real improvement

  • Strengthen governance across delegated authorities to minimise leakage and manage risk

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the Markel Claims Philosophy

  • Represent UK Claims on wider business projects committees and regulatory initiatives

What Youll Bring:

Essential experience

  • Insurance operations experience (commercial insurance preferred)

  • Proven people leadership and team development capability

  • Experience delivering operational change and process improvement

  • Strong decisionmaking skills with the confidence to lead independently

  • The ability to lead technical specialists without needing to be the technical expert

Key skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A strong grasp of systems process design and operational efficiency

  • High attention to detail with a datadriven mindset

  • Confident IT skills (MS Office particularly Excel) and appetite to learn new systems

  • Experience with MI data analysis and performance metrics (desirable)
