The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is building a new 10.2km rail line that includes 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road Woolloongabba Albert Street and Roma Street.

Once complete it will provide trains with a much-needed alternative rail path through the core of the current SEQ Rail network unlocking a bottleneck and allowing more trains to run more often across the whole of South East Queensland.

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is also delivering multiple supporting projects and activities in conjunction with Department of Transport and Main Road. These include accessibility rebuilds for eight surface stations construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast; upgrades for stabling yards; track works and surface rail enhancements; and the introduction of a new ETCS digital signalling system.

About the Roles

We are entering an exciting and busy time in the project as we move through the construction phase and into the integration of the project with the broader SEQ network. There are currently two opportunities within the legal teams at the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority:

Lawyer - Program Delivery:

This role is best suited to an early-career lawyer (up to 3 years PQE) with a background or interest in construction and projects work (front-end and/or back-end). Youll support the Delivery Legal team by providing timely high-quality legal advice on project delivery contract review legal research and risk identification. Youll gain exposure to complex infrastructure work and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Lawyer - Corporate:

This role is ideal for an early-career lawyer (up to 3 years PQE) interested in property work and public law. Youll support the Corporate Legal team on matters such as land access tenure and regulatory issues contributing to legal advice compliance and land tenure finalization for the project.

These opportunities are offered as fixed-term contracts until late 2028

Key Responsibilities:

Lawyer - Program Delivery

Provide timely and practical legal advice on project delivery and contract matters.
Support legal risk management with Program Delivery and Commercial teams.
Conduct legal research and assist in preparing advice on delivery-related issues.
Review and draft contracts legal correspondence and governance documents.
Contribute to contract management and dispute resolution processes.
Prepare legal input for internal briefings and communications.
Support coordination of external legal services and internal knowledge sharing.

Lawyer - Corporate

Assist with land tenure arrangements and property-related legal risks.
Conduct legal research and prepare advice on legislative contractual property and regulatory matters.
Draft briefing papers and communications for the CEO Minister and Board.
Support legislative compliance and review policy documents.
Review and revise legal documents including contracts and leases.
Coordinate outside counsel and manage external legal services.
Contribute to legal knowledge sharing and training.

About You:

You will be a motivated and adaptable early-career lawyer who demonstrates:

Foundational experience in legal practice ideally with exposure to infrastructure construction government or property law.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft contracts legal correspondence and briefing materials in a fast-paced environment.
Sound legal research and analytical skills with attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
Ability to manage tasks independently prioritise competing deadlines and seek guidance when needed.
Confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders building effective working relationships.
High ethical standards professionalism and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Admission (or immediate eligibility) as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland is required for these roles.
