Position Summary
The Additive Manufacturing Shift Lead plays a key role in overseeing daily additive manufacturing (AM) operations on the production floor. This position is approximately 75% hands-on production and 25% leadership and coordination ensuring that the shift team executes print builds post-processing and quality procedures safely efficiently and in accordance with established standards.

The Shift Lead provides direction to Operators and Technicians ensuring equipment readiness material availability and process adherence while also supporting continuous improvement initiatives and team development.



Key Responsibilities

Shift Leadership & Coordination

  • Assign and oversee daily tasks for Operators and Technicians to ensure smooth workflow and balanced workloads.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment materials and tools are available and operational at the start of each shift.
  • Escalate maintenance quality or production issues promptly to management or engineering support teams.

Production Oversight

  • Monitor active print builds to ensure quality accuracy and on-time completion.
  • Review and verify production documentation build logs and quality records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Conduct and document process observations shift audits and performance checks to maintain consistency and standards.

Material & Process Management

  • Oversee material handling processes including resin and powder management ensuring full traceability.
  • Spot-check adherence to procedures and address deviations in real time to prevent production or quality impacts.

Quality & Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering production and quality teams to resolve nonconformances or customer complaints.
  • Ensure builds and finished parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Support process validations and continuous feedback loops with cross-functional teams.

Training & Development

  • Mentor and support Operators and Technicians in daily operations including proper setup post-processing and documentation practices.
  • Assist with onboarding and training on standard operating procedures (SOPs) work instructions and best practices.

Maintenance & 5S

  • Oversee daily weekly and monthly preventative maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure cleanliness organization and safety standards are upheld across the production area following 5S principles (Sort Set in Order Shine Standardize Sustain).

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process enhancements that improve throughput reduce waste and increase yield.
  • Collaborate with engineering and management to document improvements track results and standardize best practices.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and environmental controls for all shift team members especially regarding material handling and machine operation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or certification in manufacturing engineering or a related field preferred.
  • 35 years of experience in additive manufacturing machining or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Prior leadership team lead or shift coordination experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of 3D printing technologies material handling (powder and resin) and post-processing techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a production floor environment.
