A Day in the Life

As a Senior Finance Program Manager within Product Innovation youll be the finance lead for a designated set of insulin technology pump CGM software programs and owning OPEX CAPEX and full-lifecycle business cases from concept through post-launch. Aligned to these high-priority initiatives youll collaborate with R&D Marketing Operations and Supply Chain to optimize capital allocation safeguard margins and ensure every invested dollar delivers maximum value to the business and our patients.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronics Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

This role requires you to work on-site at our Northridge CA office at least 3 days per week. This on-site presence is vital for collaboration and maintaining strong team connections.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program-Level Financial Ownership

  • Own the full financial pictureOPEX CAPEX lifetime P&L NPV/IRR and unit economicsfor each of your programs.

  • Build manage and analyze program-level business case financials for phase-gate and portfolio reviews.

  • Create the annual budget long-range plan rolling forecasts and lead risk / opportunity assessments.

  • Track monitor and manage spend and headcount provide real-time variance analysis and drive corrective-action planning with project managers

  • Perform ad-hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned.

2. Strategic Partnership & Decision Support

  • Lead should-costing design-to-value make-vs-buy and manufacturing-footprint analyses with Engineering Sourcing and Operations to safeguard margin goals.

  • Translate technical milestones and program risks into clear financial insights for executive management reviews and updates.

  • Run scenario and sensitivity models to quantify schedule scope and design trade-offs.

3. Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to Medtronic accounting policies R&D capitalization rules SOX requirements and external audit requests.

  • Conduct post-implementation financial reviews to capture lessons learned and feed future roadmaps.

  • Modernize finance processes with digital dashboards earned-value metrics and automation tools.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration Engineering or a related field.
  • 7 years of progressive FP&A / program-finance experience including 3 years directly supporting product-development or R&D teams.
  • Or advanced degree and 5 years of progressive FP&A / program-finance experience including 3 years directly supporting product-development or R&D teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Advanced financial-modeling skills (Excel Anaplan or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to translate technical details into clear financial insights and influence cross-functional teams up to VP / Board level.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • MBA PMP Agile Lean/Six Sigma or other equivalent Finance or project-management credentials.
  • Demonstrated ownership of P&L management program-level budgets (OPEX & CAPEX) and full-lifecycle business cases.
  • Medical-device biotech or other regulated hardware / software industry experience.
  • Direct finance support for manufacturing or supply-chain operations (plantlevel cost accounting standard-cost builds or transfer-price modeling).
  • Proficiency with SAP Power BI and automated dashboarding tools.
  • Hands-on exposure to should-costing value engineering or design-to-value initiatives.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$144000.00 - $216000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
