R&D - Analytical Chemist:
Overview:
An experienced Analytical Chemist specializing in GCGC-MSHPLC method development for essential oils responsible for advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis method validation and comprehensive QC support within a R&D laboratory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of essential oils using instruments such as Gas Chromatography (GC) Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
*Identify and investigate unknown peaks in essential oil chromatograms.
*Develop and validate analytical methods for detecting residual agricultural chemicals in essential oils using GC-FID GC-MS and HPLC.
*Perform routine maintenance calibration and troubleshooting of analytical equipment including GC HPLC and GC-MS.
*Support Quality Control (QC) testing and analytical evaluations of a wide range of products including flavors flavor ingredients aroma chemicals essential oils and specialty items.
*Perform QC evaluations on all incoming raw materials intermediates pre-shipment and finished goods samples.
*Conduct QC tests such as:
oAppearance and organoleptic assessments
oSpecific gravity refractive index and optical rotation measurements
oWet chemical analysis (e.g. aldehydes)
oGC and HPLC profiling
oAbsorption spectrum and flash point testing
*Maintain and calibrate all laboratory instruments per internal SOPs.
*Maintain detailed and accurate instrument maintenance logbooks.
*Enter QC test data into laboratory databases and generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
*Prepare and maintain QC documentation in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
*Support sample preparation based on formulations provided by the R&D team.
*Perform laboratory processing tasks such as distillation as required.
*Comply with Food Safety and Quality Management Systems including SQF standards and related procedures.
*Participate in sensory evaluations; must not have tasting restrictions and must adhere to sensory protocols (e.g. avoiding strong perfumes lotions or pungent foods).
*Carry out any additional work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
*Bachelors degree in Analytical Chemistry or closely related technical field.
*5-10 years hands-on experience in Flavors/Fragrances industry in an analytical chemistry role.
*Knowledge of Essential oils and their composition.
*Knowledge of Flavors and their ingredients.
*Knowledge and hands on practice of analytical instruments like GC HPLC and GC-MS.
*Experience of maintenance and trouble-shooting these analytical instruments like GC HPLC and GC-MS.
*Leadership in managing the duties and resources for this position.
*Oral and written communications to team members and record/note keeping.
*Maintain initiative and persistence to complete projects.
*Successfully work well in a team.
*Computer skills primarily Microsoft-based Office/Word/Excel
