SUMMARY:
The tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is a full-time 9-month role within the College of Science and Engineering. This role will play a vital part in the universitys Environmental Science program. The ideal candidate will tackle issues of state regional and national importance in environmental protection with a specific focus on teaching and research related to aquatic environmental restoration wastewater treatment and/or hydrologic remediation. This role will enhance the colleges missions in teaching research and service through impactful externally funded research effective and comprehensive teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and meaningful contributions to the department college university and profession all within a student-ready framework. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Foster a productive and collaborative environment for teaching research and outreach within the Environmental Science program.
Establish and maintain a focused research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
Pursue and successfully secure external funding to support independent research initiatives.
Mentor and involve both graduate and undergraduate students in research activities and participate in graduate thesis committees.
Develop and deliver graduate and undergraduate courses such as water quality environmental/groundwater hydrology environmental remediation along with courses in your area of expertise with possible release time based on research involvement.
Show dedication to effective and innovative teaching methods including the development and execution of various online and blended learning formats.
Provide academic advising to students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Collaborate with faculty and staff on or off campus to enhance departmental programs.
Engage in departmental college and university committees and governance and/or offer other community services.
Contribute to the professional community through activities like peer reviewing attending conferences and serving in organizations.
Actively recruit undergraduate students to grow the environmental science program and participate in outreach or community engagement to further the mission of the university college and the Environmental Science program.
Advise the Environmental Science Student Organization.
Carry out any assigned duties by the supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Ph.D./terminal degree in Environmental Science or closely related academic discipline at the time of appointment.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity in research/creative activity. Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the university level including graduate-level instruction.
Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Possesses a university-level teaching background across various environmental science courses
Proven track record in publications grant writing and collaborative work.
Skilled in mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students.
Background in collaborating with environmental consulting firms government regulatory bodies industries and other environmental organizations.
Capable of developing a research agenda in Environmental Science that could gain national recognition.
Exhibits strong potential to secure external funding.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
